Angela Merkel met with refugees – on Monday the conversation organized by the WDR goes online in the ARD media library.
Ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) composed ten years after the much-discussed refugee movement in 2015 for a television format with five migrants from Syria, Afghanistan and Iran. According to the WDR, a student who lived with her family in the church asylum are among the five, and a young couple who met protests in 2016 when he arrived in Clausnitz in Central Saxony.
“We always talk a lot about people who came to us, but not with the people who came to us. And I found that exciting,” says Merkel (70) about the format of WDRFORYOU, the multilingual information offer of the public service West German Radio.
“10 years later: Refugees in conversation with Angela Merkel” will be released on Monday (June 30th) in the ARD media library. Extracts appear on numerous other channels. The conversation was recorded on Thursday (June 26) in a Syrian restaurant in Berlin.
Moderated by Borhan Akid and Bamdad Esmaili, Merkel also shows attitude on current topics such as rejections on the limits, integration or family reunification. This could trigger new debates or rekindle old people, as the WDR means.
