Migrants from Haiti have so far enjoyed protection in the USA. But President Donald Trump wants to change that. It could be the last summer in the USA for hundreds of thousands.
US President Donald Trump’s government deprives migrants from the Caribbean crisis state of Haiti to protect those affected, which threatens the deportation to their home country. According to matching US media reports, it is about 500,000 Haitians. The Ministry of Homeland Protection said that its special temporary protection status no longer applies from September 2. This also becomes the work permits of the migrants.
The situation in Haiti had improved, which is why a safe return was possible, the ministry claimed. The migrants could take advantage of the support of the US authorities. In addition, they are free to seek a legal residence permit in the United States in another way, the ministry continued.
The US State Department warns Americans about “kidnapping, crime, unrest and limited health care” about trips to Haiti. Criminal gangs control parts of the country there, including the majority of the capital Port-Au-Prince.
People from Haiti with temporary protection of the USA
In the United States, migrants from Haiti had been granted temporary protection status for the first time after the devastating earthquake in 2010. How quickly from September how many deportations could come from is unclear.

Trump’s government wants as many foreigners as possible who do not have a valid residence permit or deport them to the country. The government has therefore already terminated its temporary protection, including migrants from Venezuela and Cuba.
