Israel attacked a prison in Tehran on Monday. Only now does Iran say that dozens of dead have been recovered.
After the Israeli attack on the Tehran Ewin prison a week ago, numerous relatives continue to worry about the fate of their detained family members. At least 71 people are said to have been killed, said Justice spokesman Asghar Jahangir according to the judicial portal Mizan. Accordingly, prison staff, conscripts, prisoners and family members of prisoners should be among the dead. The numbers cannot be verified independently – also because the leadership in Tehran does not give access to prison.
Only sporadic information about damage
On Monday, the Israeli Air Force bombed parts of the Ewin prison – according to Israeli representation, a symbolic blow against Iran’s government. According to reports, administration buildings were particularly destroyed.
Iranian activists and former occupants reacted with criticism: the attack endangered the life of political prisoners. Several Europeans are also imprisoned in Ewin.
The prison in the north of Tehran is considered the place to be abused and torture, especially political prisoners. Demonstrators were also imprisoned there because of their participation in the system -critical protests.
For days, only a little information has been penetrated with the extent of the damage to the building, the fate of the detained or names of the killed. A tour of the prison for journalists announced for today was canceled again at short notice.
Relatives want to put pressure on leadership
A child rights activist told the Shargh newspaper that the attack had been met with an administration building. The explosions therefore met the area of the public prosecutor, the medical sector and the visitor hall. Numerous soldiers and lawyers were there.
According to media reports, the public prosecutor Ali Ghanatkar should also be among the dead. He is jointly responsible for the conviction of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, who was even in the Ewin prison.
The ignorance is particularly stressful for relatives. Many expressed their concern on social media. Under the hashtag #Wheeisourprisoner, relatives began to push the judiciary for more transparency.
Relocation to other prisons
According to the attack, inmates were reported to other prisons in which the conditions, according to human rightsists, should be worse than in the notorious Ewin prison.
In the twelve -day war between Iran and Israel, more than 620 people were killed on the Iranian side, including more than 20 high -ranking commanders. The Hrana human rights network based in the United States reported almost 1,200 deaths. The activists rely on informants and publicly accessible sources. 28 people were killed in Iranian attacks in Israel.
