Career in front of the Bundestag
Politicians worked in these professions earlier (except as a lawyer)

Butcher, writer, bookseller – politicians from the Bundestag earn their money before they were elected. However, a professional branch is hardly represented.

When it comes to legal questions, the concentrated expertise is sitting in the Bundestag. About every fifth of the 630 MPs completed a law studies. According to an evaluation, exactly 100 representatives state their profession as a lawyer, lawyer or judge. The top politicians with a legal background also include ex-Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and his successor Friedrich Merz from the CDU.

If the professional names are even further if the 630 MPs come from the “Corporate Organization, Law, Administration” area, according to the Bundestag. This almost corresponds to a three-quarter majority in the Bundestag. In other words, have more mandate supports than CDU/CSU, SPD and Greens.

We therefore did without lawyers in our photo gallery. Instead, they see politicians who have practiced more unusual professions before their career in Berlin.

Politicians and their professions: Hardly any craftsmen in the Bundestag

This includes, for example, two craftsmen in relatively exposed positions: Alois Rainer (CDU/CSU), under Friedrich Merz Minister for Agriculture and Food, is a trained butcher and operates its own butcher. AfD politician Tino Chrupalla, co-boss of the largest opposition group in the Bundestag, has learned painters and painters. He also operates his own company.

Rainer and Chrupalla are two of only 17 trained craftsmen in the parliament. However, some MPs – especially those that came in top positions in relatively early – have no professional experience outside of politics. For example, the former Greens boss Ricarda Lang broke her studies in favor of the career in Berlin. The SPD chairman Lars Klingbeil also switched directly to politics after completing his studies.
