Union faction leaders are calling for further electricity tax relief

A lack of money initially prevents a reduction in electricity tax promised in the CDU, CSU and SPD coalition agreement for everyone. However, clear demands from the Union come on how to proceed.

The parliamentary group leader of the CDU and CSU require further relief in electricity tax from the federal government. It needs “the rapid lowering of electricity tax to the European minimum size for all companies and all consumers. The currently planned stabilization of the electricity tax reduction for the manufacturing trade can only be a first step,” says a paper that the parliamentary tips have decided at their conference in the Rhineland-Palatinate Bad Dürkheim. The “Politico” portal also reported on the paper that is available to the German Press Agency.

The faction leaders stand in the paper behind the planned relief by reducing the network charges and the gas storage levy of almost ten billion euros. “But we want to go on in terms of perspective,” it also says in the paper. Initially and “definitely still in this legislative period”, further steps would have to follow as soon as the financial scope for this would exist. The reduction in electricity tax to the European minimum level would relieve the economic, promote climate -friendly behavior and strengthen competitiveness.

Tax reduction accelerated transformation in Germany

“The lowering of electricity tax for everyone is a direct relief for craft and medium-sized businesses as well as private households. Electricity is increasingly generated from renewable sources. High taxes on electricity therefore weakened the incentive to replace fossil fuels with clean electricity. “A lower electricity tax would accelerate this transformation and support Germany in achieving its climate goals.”

The head of the Manuel Hagel parliamentary group chairman from Baden-Württemberg demanded that the reduction in electricity tax now quickly implement. “It can be a spark that ignites our economy again,” said the CDU politician. People would currently find new confidence in the state and government’s ability to act again. “In order to stabilize this, a clear solution should now be presented with the electricity tax – ideally stored with a specific schedule.”
