Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister of Education Eva Feussner (CDU) was criticized in her own ranks. Now Prime Minister Haseloff has decided to change. Who will follow you?
Saxony-Anhalt Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) has released Minister of Education Eva Feußner (CDU) from her office. The State Chancellery announced this in a message in the evening. The background is a weekly conflict between Feussner and parts of the CDU parliamentary group. The headmaster of the Lyonel-Feininger-Gymnasium Halle, Jan Riedel, is to become the new educational minister.
Feußner became State Secretary in the Ministry of Education in 2018, and in 2021 she was appointed minister. At the request of the CDU, the Prime Minister Feussner dismissed her and “thanked her for her long -term office as State Secretary and Minister,” said the State Chancellery. As a member of the state parliament, Feussner will continue to belong to the parliament in Magdeburg.

Feussner had repeatedly criticized in the past few months. Most recently, the abolition of ski courses for schoolchildren in physical education was, among other things. CDU member of the state parliament accused her alone and complained about a lack of votes. Previously, the faction had already collected Feussner’s plan to increase the minimum number of minimum school students in Halle, Magdeburg and Dessau-Roßlau.
At the beginning of June, Haseloff invited those involved to the State Chancellery for a crisis discussion. Representatives of the Ministry of Education and the CDU parliamentary group had come together several times to discuss controversial topics. Among other things, it was hooked when paying for additional hours from teachers.
Haseloff and CDU state chief Sven Schulze want to present the new minister on Wednesday. According to the State Chancellery, Jan Riedel is 43 years old and comes from Borna in Saxony. He worked as a teacher at high schools in Wernigerode and in Halle before becoming headmaster.
