Ukraine: UN General Secretary for unconditional ceasefire

Russia continues to attack Ukraine. While Selenskyj warns of an expansion of the war, Guterres speaks for an immediate ceasefire.

In view of the unabated violent attacks by Russia on Ukraine, UN Secretary General António Guterres warns an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. This is a first step towards a fair, comprehensive and sustainable peace, he said in a conversation with the Ukrainian head of government Denys Schmyhal in Sevilla. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj warned in his video message that Russia is preparing for the continuation of the war and, in particular, rely on the strengthening of the drone attacks.

Russia has been war on Ukraine for more than three years. The negotiations that are postponed by the US administration under President Donald Trump can hardly come. Moscow rejects an unconditional ceasefire. Recently, Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin had said that Ukrainian and Russians were a people, so the entire Ukraine actually belongs to Russia.

According to Ukrainian information, Russia had fired more than 500 drones, rockets and marching missiles on the country alone on Sunday night. The number of 537 such attacks has been the highest since the beginning of the war. According to this, there were again injured and serious damage to civilian infrastructure.

Gutres: UN support with possible reconstruction

Guterres also agreed to support Ukraine with a possible reconstruction. Guterres had pointed out Schmyhal to the United Nations’ commitment to support the efforts of the Ukrainian government to cope with the humanitarian, reconstruction and renovation needs, said a spokesman for Guterres. The UN chief and Schmyhal had met at the fourth UN Conference for Development Financing in Sevilla in southern Spanish.

Selenskyj: Putin does not strive for peace

Selenskyj emphasized in his video message, Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin does not strive for peace. He delays and consciously sabotage the negotiations. Russia invest in the drone sector and plan to increase the number of drones in attacks on Ukraine. Ukraine must be particularly prepared in the field, said Selenskyj.

Russian governor reports taking Ukrainian Luhansk

According to the occupation authorities, Russia fully conquered the eastern Ukrainian region of Luhansk. The report on the complete conquest came two days ago, said the governor of the region, Leonid Passetschnik used by Moscow, on Russian state television. So far there is no confirmation from Kyiv.

The Ministry of Defense in Moscow has not yet reported the full line -up of the Luhansk area. In the past, the official confirmation from Moscow usually came shortly after the success reports of the local occupation authorities.

The eastern Ukrainian region of Luhansk had already reached the control of the separatists supported by Moscow in 2014. In the event of an outbreak of war, the Russians managed to conquer the majority of the region within a few months. During their counter -offensive in autumn 2022, the Ukrainians were able to recapture some areas in the north of Luhansk.

Finally, however, they only kept a territory of a few square kilometers. In addition to the Crimea, which was annexed in 2014, Putin claims the Ukrainian areas of Luhansk, Donetsk, Saporischschja and Cherson as a Russian territory.

A dead and two injuries after rocket stroke in Donetsk

According to the authorities, a woman died in the east Ukrainian city of Donetsk, occupied by Russian troops. Two other people, including a minor, were injured in the Ukrainian attack, said the Moscow governor of the region, Denis Puschilin, according to the state news agency TASS. There is no confirmation from Kyiv. The information cannot be checked independently.

Selenskyj thanks Germany

Meanwhile, Selenskyj thanked Germany for help, especially when strengthening his own air defense. It is now important to find ahead of the common weapons production, he said in his video message. “One of the goals is to enter the system production of aircraft complexes – this is a strategic task,” he said.

In view of the visit of Federal Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul (CDU) in Kiev, Selenskyj also recalled political support from Berlin. Germany consider the path of Ukraine to NATO as irreversible, he said. Kiev sees the military alliance as an important guarantee of its own security, while Moscow also justified the invasion of the neighboring country with its NATO accession. Most recently, US President Donald Trump had dismissed Ukraine’s accession to NATO as unreal.

WadePhul announced on Monday at a meeting with his colleague Andrij Sybiha in Kiev, Germany and Ukraine wanted to boost cooperation in the armaments sector.
