A man is arrested in Aarhus in Danish. German investigators accuse him of having spied on the Iranian secret service – with Jewish people and places in their sights.
The Federal Prosecutor’s Office had a alleged spy arrested in Denmark, which is said to have spied on Jewish institutions and people in Germany on behalf of Iran. The Danish citizen is suspected of having acted on behalf of an Iranian secret service, as the Karlsruhe authority announced.
At the beginning of the year, the accused received the order to collect information about Jewish locations and certain Jewish people in Berlin, it is said. He spied on three objects on site in June. “This presumably served to prepare for further secret service operations in Germany, possibly up to attacks against Jewish goals,” said the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.
Transfer to Germany planned
Danish officials had arrested the man last Thursday in Aarhus, the second largest city in the Scandinavian country, further announced the Supreme German Administration. He is now to be transferred to Germany and is shown to the investigative judge of the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe, which decides on the custody. The Federal Criminal Police Office conducts the police investigations.
According to information from the “mirror”, an elite unit of the Iranian revolutionary guards are said to have given orders to prepare possible attacks in Berlin. The arrested have Afghan roots. According to the report, he is said to have taken photos of houses, including the seat of the German-Israeli Society.
Jewish institutions in Germany recently protected more
Israel had attacked Iran on June 13 and bombed goals nationwide. As a reason, the government led the threat of Iran’s controversial nuclear program – Israel feared that the Islamic Republic could build an atomic bomb. Iran denies this and reacted with rocket and drone attacks. In the meantime, a ceasefire applies.
After the beginning of the Israeli attack, the interior ministries of the federal and state governments had reinforced the measures to protect Israeli and Jewish institutions.
