It couldn’t be more scarce: Donald Trump brought his tax law in the Senate – with exactly one voice ahead. Previously there was a marathon session.
A central tax and expenditure law promoted by US President Donald Trump has an important hurdle in the US Congress. The Senate approved the project, which operates under the name “One Big Beautiful Bill” (such as: “A big, beautiful law”), on noon (local time) after a nightly marathon session with a wafer -thin majority. The decisive factor was US Vice President JD Vance, who in his role as President of the Senate can hand over the crucial vote in a stalemate.
The House of Representatives had already approved the template in an earlier version. But because the Senate brought changes, the law now has to go through the other Congress Chamber. Only then can it be presented to the president for signing. The aim of the Republicans is to bring the package to Trump’s desk before July 4th – the American Independence Day.
Donald Trump promises tax reliefs
A core of the law is the permanent extension of tax relief from Trump’s first term. These are to be financed, among other things, by cuts in social benefits – a point that has met the Democrats for violent criticism. But there are also reservations in your own ranks: Fiscal conservative Republicans complain that the law does not go far enough for the expenses and threatens to continue the budget deficit.
Trump himself has praised the law for weeks and successively increased the pressure on his party colleagues to quickly complete the legislative process.
