Merz to the coalition committee: “Very good atmosphere”

The coalition committee did not decide much. For the Chancellor, the meeting on Wednesday evening was nevertheless proof that the Union and the SPD worked well together.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) said after the second meeting of the coalition committee, satisfied with the state of the Union and SPD government alliance. “Unlike one or the other thinks and writes and talks: We work really well together in this coalition,” he said at a conference of the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken in Berlin.
The more than five hours of coalition tips had taken place on Wednesday evening in a “very good atmosphere”. “We have been in office for a good eight weeks now and we plan to do that even longer and further and above all.”
Not a word about electricity tax
The coalition committee also decided “a few things”, said Merz. However, he did not go into the specific results in his speech or in the subsequent panel discussion.
The heads of the Union and the SPD had decided against an expansion of the planned electricity tax reduction to private consumers and all companies because the money was lacking. The extended mother’s pension should start on January 1, 2027 – and thus a year earlier than initially assumed.
