The German controls on the border with Poland caused trouble in the neighboring country. On Monday, it is also checked in the other direction – with consequences for drivers.
Poland’s government is expecting negative effects of the controls on the border to Germany on the Monday for traffic in the region. “We are aware that there will be certain delays at the border,” government spokesman Adam Szlapka told the Portal Onet.pl. However, the work of the border protection officials is organized in such a way that the inconvenience will be as low as possible.
From July 7, Poland wants to temporarily introduce its own controls on the German-Polish border in response to German border controls. Germany has been checking randomly on the border with Poland since October 2023 to stop irregular migration. Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) had more intensive border controls shortly after the new Federal Government started in May. At the same time, he ordered that asylum seekers can also be rejected at the border in the future.
These rejections from Germany have become a stimulus topic in Poland. Representatives of the right -wing conservative opposition party PIS accuse the ProEuropean government of Donald Tusk to accept a large number of migrants from Germany. Right -wing radicals from the “Movement to Defense of the Borders” have organized their own citizenship, which patrol on the border. The PIS and also the future President Karol Nawrocki, which she supported, praise these actions.
Government spokesman Szlapka contradicted the representation of PIS politicians that “hordes of migrants” come across the border. The situation is under control.
According to the Interior Ministry, the Federal Police have made around 1,300 rejections on the German-Polish land border since May 8. In every tenth case, an asylum application was expressed.
