Mask procurement: Spahn names allegations malignant

Masks were initially just in the Corona period. What mistakes did Jens Spahn make during the procurement? Should something be covered up later? The opposition calls for urgent answers.
Union parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn (CDU), a possible committee of inquiry for mask procurement in Corona pandemic, is calmly opposed to his own words. When asked whether he was afraid of such a committee, Spahn told the “Stern”: “No”. However, an Enquete Commission is the better way to deal with and social satisfaction. “In the then coalition of Germany, we led well through this difficult time. We don’t have to throw ourselves in the dust for that.”
Since the completely unwooded report by the special investigator Margaretha Sudhof became known, the opposition in the Bundestag has once again increased the pressure on Spahn. From the perspective of the Greens and Left, the report shows that Spahn was personally closely integrated into the masking deals. They call for the establishment of an investigation committee. On Tuesday, Sudhof is expected in the budget committee for a “technical discussion”.
Spahn complained of malignant allegations in the debate about his person. “I hope that my actions will be assessed in the context of the emergency. We were completely unprepared,” said the former Federal Minister of Health. “Instead, five years later, standards are created as if there had been no pandemy of the century and viciously constructed allegations.”
Greens and the left hope for support from the SPD
Greens and the left in the Bundestag appealed to the SPD to clear the way for an investigation committee. The SPD’s promise alone is missing for the establishment, said Green Group Managing Director Irene Mihalic to the “Stern”. “If the SPD refuses its voices, it stands out protectively from Jens Spahn and against Parliament’s minority right.”
Mihalic said the knowledge from the unwooded report was opened by a network of lobby commissions and ministerial wrong decisions. There is an impression that today’s Minister of Health Nina Warken (CDU) has deliberately blackened passages to hide Spahn’s entanglements. This can only be completely clarified in an investigation committee.
Left -wing faction leader Heidi Reichinnek told the magazine that dealing with the Union with the case damaged its credibility. “It should be a matter of course after these questionable deals have presumably caused a billion dollar damage to take responsibility for this and to support the establishment of the committee of inquiry.”
Mihalic had already promoted support for a committee of inquiry in a letter to the Union and SPD in the Bundestag last week. The background is that the Greens and Left do not come to the necessary 25 percent of MPs for the establishment of such a body and do not want to rely on any voices of the AfD.
Union refers to planned Enquete Commission
The Union rejects an investigation committee. Group Managing Director Steffen Bilger (CDU) pointed out that the black and red coalition is planning to establish an Enquete Commission of the Bundestag for the processing of the pandemic.
“An investigation committee, which is only occupied by politicians, is a classic instrument of the opposition,” he told the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. With the help of external experts, an Enquete Commission, on the other hand, can work out the pandemic factually and non-partisan. “It is not about party political blame, but about taking responsibility and better preparing our country for future crises.”
