In election campaigns there are always reports on false information from Russia. Friedrich Merz became the victim of a fake news campaign months after the federal election.
Friedrich Merz has targeted a perfidious campaign from Russia. The Chancellor is said to have been hunting in Canada and killed seals, polar bear and her boys.
The claims can be found in an online article of the non-existent medium “Toronto Journal”. Apparently the website was created for the purpose of spreading false information. However, the journalists shown on the side really exist. Her author profiles were stolen from the Canadian daily “Toronto Star”, as various media report.
In addition to the article, a video was brought into circulation, which is probably AI generated. It shows Friedrich Merz how he kneels with hunting rifle in his hand on a dead robe. Subsequently, dead polar bears are also displayed. This is followed by an interview with an alleged Inuit from Coral Harbor, which is outraged. The place where Merz is said to have hunted is located on the south coast of the Southampton Island on the northern edge of Hudson Bay.
So real journalists and places are used to make history credible. In essence, however, it should be fictitious.
Not the first campaign against Friedrich Merz
At first “Gnida” had reported on the Merz history. The research portal is known to expose Russian fake news. Accordingly, the chancellor’s invented polar bear hunting is the propaganda group “Storm-1516”, which in the past has already spread fake news about Merz, Baerbock or Habeck. US presidential candidate Kamala Harris and the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj also fell victim to her.
According to the research of various US media, the American John Mark Dougan plays a crucial role. It is said to be behind a Russian network that spreads the fake stories invented local news sites. According to reports, the former deputy sheriff from Florida fled to Moscow.
