What will Robert Habeck do in the future? The picture is gradually clarifying. Whether he will stay in the Bundestag is still open.
Ex-Economics Minister Robert Habeck is drawn abroad. The Green politician wants to work at the Danish Institute for International Studies in Copenhagen in the future. He also strives for “visiting professorships at various non -European universities” and “freelance engagement as speakers on various occasions”. This emerges from a announcement in the Federal Gazette, previously the “Spiegel” reported about it. The 55-year-old, who speaks Danish, had already spent part of his studies in Denmark.
Member of the Federal Foreign Committee
The federal government did not make any objection. It is still unclear whether Habeck also wants to keep his mandate. He sits in the Federal Foreign Affairs and represents the Flensburg-Schleswig constituency in parliament. From October he is planning a series of talks under the title “Habeck Live” on the Berlin Ensemble.
In June, Habeck talks with the US elite university Berkeley were known about a possible position as a guest lecturer. After the disappointing result of 11.6 percent for the Greens in the Bundestag election, who started as a candidate for chancellor, had announced his retreat from the first row of his party. However, he accepted the Bundestag mandate.
Jörg Kukies (SPD), who was temporary finance minister after breaking the traffic light coalition from the SPD, Greens and FDP, wants to “work as a freelance speaker on various occasions in the future”. Here, too, the federal government gave the green light.
According to the Federal Minister Act, the government can prohibit activities of previous ministers for 18 months after leaving the office, “to be obtained as far as the employment of public interests”. This can be the case, for example, when it comes to overlap with the earlier work as a minister.
The MPs’ Act also applies to MPs. There it says: “The exercise of the mandate is the focus of the activity of a member of the Bundestag. Without prejudice to this obligation, activities of professional or other kind remain permissible in addition to the mandate.”
