There had been resistance from the Union against a personnel. But now it is clear: The Bundestag can decide on three candidates for judges’ positions at the constitutional court.
Despite some resistance in the Union, the Bundestag election committee has spoken out for the Jura professor Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, which is to become new constitutional judges at the SPD’s proposal. This was learned by the German Press Agency in Berlin from participant circles. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” had previously reported.
The committee also recommends that the second SPD candidate, Professor Ann-Katrin Kaufhold, and the judge at the Federal Labor Court proposed by the Union. The plenary is to be coordinated on Friday.
In particular against Brosius-Gersdorf, there had previously been resistance from the Union. Among other things, she had campaigned for vaccination obligation in Corona pandemic.
A two -thirds majority is necessary when voting in the plenum. In contrast to the election committee with its twelve regular members, the government parties CDU/CSU and SPD could also need voices of the left in addition to the Greens if they do not want to rely on votes from the AfD. The choice is secret.
