In the Red Sea, the Bundeswehr takes part in an EU military mercury to protect merchant ships. In this context, according to the Federal Foreign Office, there was a Chinese laser use.

After an incident, the Federal Foreign Office has ordered the Chinese ambassador in the Red Sea as part of the “Aspides” EU military in the framework of the EU military mile. The Chinese military had targeted the aircraft in the operation with a laser insert, the German Foreign Ministry said on platform X on the grounds. The endangerment of German staff and the disruption of the operation are completely unacceptable.

Against this background, the Chinese ambassador Deng Hongbo was ordered today, it said. The formal entry of an ambassador is considered a sharp diplomatic means with which the government’s government signals a significant upset. Details of the incident were initially not communicated.

According to information from the German press agency, the incident occurred in early July when a German plane was on the road for a surveillance flight over the sea area. It was found that a Laser was directed to the machine by a Chinese warship. The illustration of a laser is at least a threatening gesture in the military.

With the EU military campaign “Aspides”, in which the Bundeswehr participates, merchant ships are to be protected from the Huthi militia operating from Yemen in the Red Sea.
