The South Korean ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol is on trial for treason. At the beginning of the year he was already in custody. Now he has to go behind bars again.
An arrest warrant has been issued again against the former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. A court in the capital Seoul followed the decision by the responsible special prosecutor, as South Korea’s official news agency Yonhap reported.
The special prosecutor argued that Yoon could possibly destroy evidence. Among other things, the 64-year-old is accused of treason. He threatens a lifelong prison sentence.
Yoon Suk Yeol plunged South Korea with a deep state crisis with war law
As President, Yoon Suk Yeol surprisingly proclaimed war law in December and plunged his country into a deep state crisis. He also justified the radical step by the fact that the left opposition was allegedly infiltrated by communist and anti -state forces. He did not provide evidence of these accusations.
In mid-January, the 64-year-old was arrested in the course of the state crisis, but then released from pre-trial detention in early March. In April he was released by the Office of the Office. At the beginning of June, the left politician Lee Jae Myung won the early presidential election.
Yoon had all the allegations denied through his lawyers. In the early Thursday morning local time, he was taken to a detention center south of the capital Seoul, where he now has to remain in his procedure until the court ruling.
