The new burger diet: Trump’s Brazil-Zölle. The situation in the morning

Donald Trump’s Brazil-Zölle as boomerang, explosive coordination, a celebrity process and sunny news. That is important today.

Good morning, dear readers!

So, I know it is a little early to think of the next barbecue party, but: Who can resist a hamburger with a juicy patty between two warm bun halves, salad, tomato, onion, goats and sauce? I already run the saliva when I write. And I don’t eat meat at all! Fortunately, there are now very good meatless burger alternatives.

But I wander off. Why do I talk about burger? Well, because they are not only in high demand in Germany, but are almost sacred in the United States. They belong there to every barbecue such as hot dogs, plastic beer and farmer salad. Only the typical American dish could soon become a luxury item. And Donald Trump, of all things, is to blame, who is a “Huuuge” fan of Fast Food.

Trump’s tariffs against Brazil could make burger more expensive

As you were able to read yesterday in the morning, the US President Zölle announced 50 percent of goods from Brazil. Dealers and analysts now fear that this could be a grip on the toilet for the US president. Because the tariffs could clearly make the hamburg meat significantly more expensive. Food manufacturers are increasingly dependent on imports because domestic production decreases. Trump’s plans also meet the US meat groups at a time when the offer is scarce anyway. The reason for this is a stop of the cattle imports from Mexico due to the infestation with the new world screw worm fly, a carnivorous pest.

“If the plan is not changed, the imports of Brazilian beef will simply stop in this country,” said Bob Chudy, a consultant for US import companies. “Not a single pound will be more economical at this level.”

The beef prices in the USA have already climbed to a record high this year. In addition, the farmers had reduced their herds of cattle to the smallest level for more than seven decades due to a long -standing drought.

In response to this, the food manufacturers raised imports. The US imports of beef from Brazil have more than doubled in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year. The tariffs threatened by Trump should come into force on August 1st.

How long afterwards the beef supplies still hold is uncertain. Maybe more Americans will soon become vegetarians.

Is there a scandal in the Bundestag today?

In the past, the election of new judges for the Federal Constitutional Court rather laid a shadowy existence, from which the general public hardly took any note. The choice was often only a formal. However, the replacement of three vacant judge positions for Germany’s highest court has been making one headline after the other for days – because of two hot iron.

The first: the SPD has set up Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf for the office. Because of her attitudes into vaccinations and abortions, some of the coalition partners Union is almost radical on left. The second: A two -thirds majority is needed for the election in the Bundestag – which will be difficult to crack without left or AfD. A double controversy that has it all.

Today is the day of the decision. And for black and red it will be a litmus test. If Brosius-Gersdorf-on which the parties had actually agreed in a compromise-fails in the coalition. And if the Union candidate Günter Spinner receives the necessary votes with the help of the AfD, this could also cause moods. Especially with the opposition Greens, who are pounding on a majority without the right.

What if a candidate fails? It would be a embarrassment for the still young federal government. The star-Politik bosses Veit Medick and Jan Rosenkranz discuss the choice in our “5-minute talk” podcast about the choice that a lot is at stake:

Block in court

Separations and divorces can be real turning point for families. If there are also disputes about the children and custody, they are all the more painful and traumatic. For their own offspring, mothers and fathers would often do everything. But you also kidnap? From today on, this is about one of the most sensational court processes of the year. On the dock: a gastronomy entrepreneur and a well-known TV presenter.

You are sure to know, dear readers, it’s about the Block case. In 2024, two children were violently brought to Germany by Christina Block from Denmark. Now 52-year-old is one of seven defendants in a trial for alleged childhood. Co -accused: TV presenter Gerhard Delling, Block’s partner.

The daughter of the founder of the Block House restaurant chain, Eugen Block, has been fighting for her daughter, born in 2010 and the son, born in 2010. Both children have been living with their father in Denmark since the end of August 2021. According to the Hamburg public prosecutor’s office, after a weekend visit according to his right of access, he retained illegally. According to the indictment, Christina Block, in cooperation with the head of a Hamburg security company, is said to have given the order to violently deprive the two children of the care of the father, who is also careful. Blocks defenders have contradicted this presentation several times. After a court order, the mother had to let her children go back to Denmark.

My colleagues researched the Block case and reconstructed the alleged kidnapping. You can read more about this here:

Something positive

The sun provides us with more green electricity: in June 2025, solar energy was the largest power source in the European Union for the first time. As the British Thinktank Ember announced, 22.1 percent of the electricity used in the EU came from solar systems last month. The solar energy before nuclear power was 21.8 percent and wind power with 15.8 percent. This emerges from a message from the organization that deals with the energy transition. According to the information, gas had a share of 14.4 percent, followed by hydropower with 12.8 percent. According to Ember, at least three countries have broken their record in solar power production due to the continuous expansion of solar systems and the strong sunlight. Wind energy generation also achieved a new record in Europe.

The proportion of coal in electricity generation in Europe, on the other hand, was more low in June – Ember estimates it to 6.1 percent compared to 8.8 percent in 2024. Even in the countries of Germany and Poland known for coal stream, the power generation due to this fossil energy source in June decreased significantly.
