Should the Potsdam law professor Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf become a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court? The SPD suggests it. But there are reservations in the CDU/CSU. Who is the woman?
Rarely does a possible candidate trigger such discussions for a federal judge’s office: The Potsdam Jura professor Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf proposed by the SPD meets resistance in the ranks of the Union. Only very few formulate him publicly, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” and “Bild” newspaper reported on anonymously expressed rejection.
What is at least part of the CDU/CSU can be read from public speeches by the CDU MP Saskia Ludwig at X. Brosius-Gersdorf “as a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court was unsuitable and is unelectable for each Democrat,” she wrote, referring to a legal statement in which the 54-year-old, as a co-author in pandemic, had decided to make an obligation to vaccinate.
Candidate for Federal Constitutional Court controversial due to attitude to abortions
According to the “FAZ” report, the “FAZ” report is also rubbed in the Union faction at the attitude of Brosius-Gersdorf. In the report of an expert commission deployed by the Federal Government, it said in a chapter responsible by the lawyer: “There are good reasons for the fact that the manner guarantee only applies from birth.” The passage deals with dealing with unborn life and the relevant rights and their consideration against each other.
A few years ago, Brosius-Gersdorf wrote about women’s quotas in the list of optional lists in a guest post for the “Tagesspiegel”, without this place to stay “the equality order on the route”.
Experienced lawyer
Born in Hamburg, she now has the chair for public law at the University of Potsdam, in particular constitutional law and social law. Since this year she has also been a student of studies there and is therefore essentially responsible for the design of studies and teaching.
In the course of her career, Brosius-Gersdorf dealt with very different questions. After the turn of the millennium, she worked as a lawyer for several years. Her doctorate was about the independence of the Bundesbank, her habilitation was entitled “Demographic Change and Family Promotion.”
Brosius-Gersdorf had a chair for public law in Hanover for more than a decade, where she received a teaching price for rhetoric and didactics twice. She published legal magazines and was a member of the Central Ethics Commission of the Federal Medical Association for two years. Under the traffic light commission, she was a member of the Commission on the reform of the right to abortion.
