President Trump has long been resisting arms deliveries to Ukraine. Now a change of direction is indicated in an interview.
According to a report, US President Donald Trump plans to make an explanation of his Russia policy. “I’m disappointed with Russia, but we will see what will happen in the next few weeks,” said Trump in a telephone interview with a reporter from the US broadcaster NBC. The broadcaster quoted the president as follows: “I think I will make an important explanation of Russia on Monday.”
According to Trump, there is also a new agreement between the USA, NATO and Ukraine, NBC wrote. Trump plans to deliver weapons to NATO, which in turn would pass it on to Ukraine, NBC reported on the conversation. “We deliver weapons to NATO and NATO pays these weapons 100 percent,” said Trump according to NBC. This was agreed on this during the NATO summit at the end of June.
A NATO spokeswoman only answered what the agreement looks exactly: “The allies continue to work to ensure that Ukraine receives the support it needs to defend itself against Russian aggression. This also includes urgent efforts to obtain important deliveries from the United States, including air defense and ammunition.”
On Thursday, NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte reported on X of a conversation with President Trump. He works closely with the allies to obtain the help that Ukraine needs.
Patriot flight defense for Kyiv?
On Thursday, US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio also accepted European countries such as Spain and Germany in the air defense of Ukraine. Several countries therefore have air defense systems of the Patriot type, which the Ukraine attacked by Russia needs. Among other things, he referred to Germany and Spain. Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Thursday that Germany wanted to buy Patriots from the USA to make them available to Ukraine.
Previously, the “Wall Street Journal” had reported that the US President should consider changing the course and the delivery of an additional air defense system to Ukraine. This would approved the delivery of a larger weapon system to Kiev for the first time, which goes beyond the number promised by the government of his predecessor Joe Biden.
The patriot flight defense rocket system produced in the USA is one of the most modern in the world. With it, enemy aircraft, ballistic rockets and marching missiles are combated.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than three years. Moscow’s military has been trying to overload the neighboring country’s air defense.
