North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Un has already delivered soldiers and weapons. Now he suggests further assistance to Foreign Minister Lavrov in the Ukraine War.
At a meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Un confirmed that Russia unconditionally supported Russia against Ukraine. As the state news agency KCNA reported, Kim told Lavrow that “the same views in all strategic questions” and “the measures taken by the Russian leadership will continue to support the causes of the Ukraine crisis (…) unconditionally”.
The meeting between Kim and Lavrow took place on Saturday in the North Korean coastal city of Wonsan, where the North Korean ruler recently celebrated the completion of a new holiday complex.
North Korea could soon send more soldiers to Russia
Moscow and Pyongyang sealed a strategic partnership in North Korea in the summer of 2024 when visiting Russian President Vladimir Putin in North Korea, which also includes military support if one of the two countries should be attacked. Kim Waffen – especially artillery and rockets – had already sent for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
After the meeting, he also sent soldiers to recapture the areas in the West Russian area of Kursk, which the Ukrainians had previously taken on a surprising counterattack. According to estimates by the Ukrainian and also the South Korean secret service, up to 14,000 North Korean soldiers were involved in the battles.
According to media reports, which rely on an assessment of the Ukrainian secret service, North Korea could soon send up to 30,000 other soldiers to Russia. In return for military aid, Russia should not only deliver food and funds, but also support North Korea in the technical development of rocket programs. There is no official confirmation for this.
