The election of the judges at the Federal Constitutional Court went wrong. Now Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier reads the Levites of the black and red coalition.
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier considers the black and red government coalition to be “damaged” after the shifted election of the constitutional judges. “I think if you take a look at the newspapers from the weekend, you will learn immediately, the coalition has damaged itself,” said Steinmeier on Sunday in the “Summer Interview” of the ZDF. The Federal President urged to make a decision about the constitutional judges “in the near future”.
Steinmeier said about the short -term new occupation of three judges’ posts at the Federal Constitutional Court by the Bundestag, which of course also moves to the authority of Parliament, which had the right to make decisions here. He was “far away” to say that the Federal Constitutional Court damages, said the Federal President. “At least not if the decisions are still made in the closer time.”
Frank-Walter Steinmeier in concern
If this does not happen, “we would have to be worried,” added Steinmeier. It is not a little thing about which it is about: “It is about the authority and functionality of a constitutional body that is also our highest dish”.
On Friday, the Bundestag was supposed to be on the re -occupation of three judges’ posts at the Federal Constitutional Court. However, the Union faction called for the discontinuation of the election of the SPD candidate Brosius-Gersdorf and referred to allegations of plagiarism, which were then criticized as constructed.
