Does Donald Trump get out the shelter against Putin? The situation in the morning

Does Trump have enough of Putin? Is Alfons Schuhbeck again convicted? What options does Jens Spahn still have? And are 17-year-old drivers better? That is important today.

Good morning, dear readers!

I hope you had a nice weekend.

Does Donald Trump now have enough of his counterpart Vladimir Putin? The US President announced that he wanted to make an important statement on Russia. He left the details open. It should remain exciting.

But the first omen already exists: the US special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, will travel to Kiev for a week from Monday. During the night, Trump then announced that the United States will deliver patriot defense systems to Ukraine. “We will send you Patriots that you urgently need.” According to Trump, these weapon systems are to be sold to the European Union so that it forwards them to Ukraine.

Does Donald Trump get out of the hunt against Russia?

However, one believes that it could come even more to Russia. “A turning point in relation to Russia’s invasion in Ukraine is imminent,” said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham to the US television broadcaster CBS. Trump has tried to bring Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table for months. “He kept the door open with regard to Russia – this door is to close,” said Graham.

The Senator referred to the support in the Senate for Sanctions against Russia and other countries that buy Russian products and thus support “Putin’s war machine”: “China, India and Brazil buy oil and oil products as well as other goods from Russia. This is the money that Putin uses for warfare.”

Trump’s favorite retaliation could come into play: tariffs of up to 500 percent are under discussion. Graham called the advance a “shelter” with which Trump could end the war. As a reminder: The US President had announced that he ended the Ukraine secretary within 24 hours of his inauguration. 25 weeks have now passed.

New verdict against Stäckoch Schuhbeck expected

It was less than three years ago that Alfons Schuhbeck, who was celebrated, was sent behind Swedish curtains. In 2022, the 76-year-old was convicted of the millions in the millions.

Now he is threatened with a new judgment, this time, among other things, because of allegations of bankruptcy and fraud with corona wages. After completing the evidence, the pleadings of the public prosecutor and defense are imminent.

Should Schuhbeck be guilty again at the Munich I District Court, a total prison sentence of up to four years and eight months could be imminent. Small bright spot: The already imposed sentence of three years and two months from 2022 would be included in this new punishment. This penalty framework is part of an agreement between defense, the public prosecutor and court, which was confessed according to Schuhbeck’s confession.

The trial against the former company patriarch also offered deep insights into Schuhbeck’s life and its business practices: 27 million euros owe, for years no noteworthy bookkeeping, company bankruptcies and a management that was on the verge of legality and went far beyond.

“I, the well -known cook, should register bankruptcy? I just couldn’t” “

As an explanation for the bankruptcy and fraud with corona wilference, Schuhbeck stated that he was a chef and not a financial expert, which is why he had lost the overview. “It was no longer an economical.” He apologized to his creditors, whose exact number is still unclear. Everything had grown over his head.

The prison sentence that Schuhbeck is currently serving was suspended for health reasons. According to his lawyers, he is incurable to cancer and is currently being treated outside the prison. There he now has to organize his private financial circumstances. In court, he stated that he would get a narrow pension of 1100 euros. “I live from that.” His brother pays his health insurance, but with the rent for his 4800 euro apartment he was behind. Friends would give him money for it, but not enough.

It remains uncertain whether and when Schuhbeck has to get back to custody.

Jens Spahn in Sackgasse

For the Chancellor, the scandal to choose the new constitutional judge is “not a broken leg”, “nothing that we around”. So of course you can also talk yourself beautiful. But the failed line -up of the three posts at the Federal Constitutional Court on Friday was a decent blow to the coalition’s account. And what makes the whole thing more spicy: A solution has not yet been in sight.

One thing is certain: three new judges are required to Germany’s highest court. So at some point the Union and SPD have to agree. But what if the SPD holds onto the controversial candidate Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf? Now the Union faction leader Jens Spahn is in demand. The star-Politik bosses Veit Medick and Jan Rosenkranz discuss his bad options in our political podcast “5-minute talk”:

Something positive

When did you hold your driver’s license in your hands for the first time, dear readers? At 18? Or were they one of the “cool kids” that made the streets unsafe with the moped? I myself went to the driving school for the first time at the tender age of 16 to be able to get behind at the age of 17 – while driving. An experienced passenger, mostly a parent, sits next to one and acts as an additional pair of eyes that gives the young drivers security and pays attention to the street.

Now an evaluation of the R+V insurance shows that accompanied driving causes significantly fewer accidents in road traffic. If, on the other hand, young people start with their (or parental) car from the start, the risk of accidents increases by 23 percent.

In my case, I can only say: So far I have been accident -free – at least on the open street. Only in a (very narrow) underground car park I missed my vehicle a decent dent when parking. But of course I am not proof that accompanied driving causes fewer accidents.
