Acceptance for Israel’s approach to the Gaza Strip is smaller. UN Secretary-General António Guterres sharply criticizes the attacks-and sticks to the two-state solution.
UN General Secretary António Guterres described the number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza War as an unprecedented history. “This undermines the most fundamental conditions for the human dignity of the population of Gaza, regardless of the enormous suffering they suffer,” said Guterres in New York.
The Israeli army has so far killed more than 55,000 Palestinians in the war, including many civilians. The numbers go back to the health authority in Gaza controlled by the Hamas, they are considered credible by the United Nations. Guterres also emphasized that he also condemned the “terrible attacks” of Hamas from October 7.
Two-states solution required
The UN boss, who comes from Portugal, continues to hold onto a two-state solution. With a view to the end of the month, he said: There could only be a solution if both Palestinians and Israelis have a state in which they can exercise their rights. “The idea of leaving five million people without rights in the country is completely against humanity and international law,” he said with regard to the total number of Palestinians.
The conference in New York is to take place from July 28th to 30th and take place at the ministerial level. A breakthrough cannot be expected in view of the location in Middle East. France and Saudi Arabia organize the meeting.
