Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius continues to work on the Bundeswehr’s armament. He wants to buy US long-distance weapons. With a range of 2000 kilometers.
Germany wants to procure the far -reaching precision weapon Typhon in the United States, with which rockets can be fired with a range of around 2000 kilometers. “To put it simply, the land -based launch ramps, with which different steering aircraft can be shot at different distances,” said Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) when he visited Washington to journalists.
The weapon system could also achieve goals in Russia. However, Pistorius emphasized that it only serves to deter.
The purchase has not yet been decided. Germany has only expressed interest in the weapons. The United States is now checking whether you are willing to deliver. US defense minister Pete Hegseth took note of the request in a conversation, said Pistorius.
It has been his first visit to the United States since the government took office of US President Donald Trump in January.
Pistorius continues to work on the armament and wants to “improve deterrence”
It is crucial that the scope of these weapon systems is significantly larger than those that have so far been in Europe, said Pistorius. “Germany can thus significantly increase its own defense ability, also significantly increase its deterrence, but also the Europe and that is of crucial importance.”
Pistorius did not want to say what the procurement for the stationing of US medium-sized routes planned under US President Joe Biden a year ago. The new US government of President Donald Trump has not yet committed itself to whether it wants to stick to the stationing.
