Should boomer pay a solos for the pension? The situation in the morning

A proposal to secure the pension, Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf defends herself, swimming can save lives and again intestinal bacteria. That is important today.

Good morning, dear readers!

Although I have more than 30 years before I can retire, I am already thinking about my pension. Not so much about what I could do as a pensioner, but whether I can afford it at all. Will my money be enough – despite private provision? And how much will it be worth in a few decades? Maybe you feel the same way.

The German pension system faces huge challenges: Demographic change ensures that fewer and fewer young people pay more and more old. The increasing life expectancy extends the retirement duration and continues to tear the financing gap of the health insurers. And many pensioners will be affected by old -age poverty despite decades of work.

A pension soli for “Boomer”?

Union and SPD want to tackle the topic. In the next few weeks, the coalition plans to get future securing the pension level for the coming years. Then a pension commission should think about the future. After exuberant zest for action, it doesn’t necessarily sound like you are honest.

Experts from the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) now propose a completely different way: the “Boomer-Soli”. The high-birth vintages of the 1950s and 1960s, the Boomer, are gradually retiring. This is heavily burdened by the pension funds and the German pay -as -you -go system. Such a solidarity surcharge could stabilize the pensions, according to the experts. First he had reported on the advance.

The idea: The “Boomer-Soli” would be raised to age income from a certain amount. The income does not flow into the federal budget, but into a special fund that would be used exclusively for the redistribution of age income. Small income is said to protect small incomes, while the top fifth of income in particular would be burdened. Another consideration: pension entitlements could be redistributed – low pensions would increase, higher ones decrease. However, this could only be implemented in the long term.

Rich in retirement: that much should create 30-year-olds for it

In any case, the DIW experts appeal to politics to implement “brave and far-reaching reforms”. A “Boomer Soli” could help secure the pension and guarantee the standard of living in old age.

What do you mean, dear readers? Should the “boomers” pay an extra tax? Or should pensioners be allowed to enjoy their retirement in peace?

Is that already a witch hunt?

This woman has been dividing the country for around two weeks: the legal professor Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf. She was supposed to be elected as the new judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, but the coordination in the Bundestag burst-due to criticism from the Union of her alleged views on abortion and corona vaccination. They even called critics “left -wing extremist”. On Tuesday, Brosius-Gersdorf initially defended himself in a written statement. The allegations are “wrong” and “defamatory”. She also criticized the reporting on her.

On Tuesday evening, the 54-year-old then spoke in detail on the ZDF program “Markus Lanz”. She reported threats and suspicious post that had been sent to her chair. She rejected the allegation that she was radical on the left. You can read more about the conversation between Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf and Markus Lanz here:

Will the dispute around Brosius-Gersdorf become a danger to Merz?

We stay on the subject. Because the dispute is not only Brosius-Gersdorf, but also CDU and CSU. Group leader Jens Spahn is under pressure, and the faction is bubbling. The leadership fears that something fundamental changes in the Union and that the MPs no longer remain reliable in line. How big is the circle of racket? How dangerous could the resistance for Friedrich Merz be, possibly for the coalition? The star-Politik bosses Veit Medick and Jan Rosenkranz talk about the background in our “5-minute talk” podcast:

Can’t swim endangered children

The summer vacation has long started in some federal states, in others they are imminent. This means that outdoor pools, swimming lakes and beaches fill up with children who jump into the cool water between water ice and french fries, jump from the five-meter tower or swim to the pontoons. Wonderfully carefree summer days.

But many children cannot swim well enough, warns Peter Harzheim, President of the Federal Association of German Swimming Master, in the. In the worst case, this could even end in fatal bathing accidents. “It drives my stipes on my forehead when many go to the lakes that cannot swim well enough,” he said.

A main problem is that the swimming skills of young people have increased significantly. “In fourth grade, around half of the children cannot swim safely or not at all,” he said.

He therefore appeals to the parents: “It is important that parents with their children go into their bathrooms and teach them really swimming under supervision.” Because the lack of bathing masters further tighten the situation.

Something positive

Yesterday I had already written about helping intestinal bacteria that record the eternal draft chemical Pfas. Now it is again about intestinal bacteria that do good: Japanese researchers have shown in an experiment with mice that a certain bacterial strain increases the effect of cancer immunotherapy. The Japanese broadcaster reports. Immunity -promoting cancer medication should be sufficiently effective in less than half of the patients. The intestinal microbioma was considered a possible factor of influence, but the exact mechanism remained unclear.

The researchers analyzed stool samples of 50 cancer patients who received immunotherapy. They discovered that patients who spoke on the therapy had a higher proportion of the bacterial tribe YB328. They transplanted this trunk into mice with cancer, the intestinal flora of which had previously been removed. Another group of mice gave them microorganisms of patients who had not asked about therapy.

The result: For mice with YB328, the tumors shrank after the administration of cancer medication. The research team says that another experiment has shown that the bacterial base activates immune cells. Hiroyoshi Nishikawa from the institute said that YB328 could improve the effect of immunotherapies in patients who have not yet benefited from this. He hopes to continue research to develop new medication.
