The household proposal from Brussels ensures frown in Berlin. Load companies and press tobacco tax revenue to the EU? Is out of the question for Germany, says the finance minister.
Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil does not consider the proposal of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to be able to consent to the next long-term EU budget. “We have to remain absolutely in relation to finances. I see that as not preserved,” said the SPD politician on the verge of a meeting of the G20 finance minister in Durban in South African.
The Federal Government wants to strengthen Germany’s economy, secure jobs and bring investments into the country. “And there is this corporate taxation, which is now proposed by the European Commission, the wrong signal in this form,” said Klingbeil.
As one of several new sources of income for the EU budget, the Commission proposes a tax for large companies with annual sales of more than 100 million euros. In addition, 15 percent of the income from national tobacco taxes should flow to Brussels. The criticized Klingbeil too. Germany cannot participate, he emphasized.
