Which corona measures should still apply from March 19? The SPD and the Greens are calling for further options. FDP Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann can imagine that at least one measure will remain.
Federal Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann has spoken out in favor of continuing only a few measures, such as a mask requirement in special situations, after the end of most corona restrictions at the beginning of spring.
“Due to the limitation of some provisions of the Infection Protection Act, the far-reaching measures restricting fundamental rights will end in mid-March,” said the FDP politician to the “Rheinische Post”. All ongoing measures would have to be newly justified. “At the moment, only measures that are highly effective and have a low intervention intensity seem conceivable to me. In particular, this could be test strategies and the obligation to wear a mask in special situations,” explained Buschmann.
The federal and state governments have agreed on an extensive end to the corona restrictions for mid-March, and the nationwide legal basis for such measures expires on March 19. They also agreed to enable “basic protection measures” afterwards. The co-governing FDP opposes demands from the federal states and from the traffic light coalition for broader intervention options. The Greens, partners of the FDP in the government coalition, are pushing for a more comprehensive catalog of measures in the event that the corona situation deteriorates again.
The designated FDP General Secretary Bijan Djir-Sarai told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (Saturday): “Should the infection process change again substantially, the Bundestag is able to act at any time. But you can’t keep extending such freedom-restricting measures over and over again, so to speak, in advance.”
