At the security conference in Munich, attempts are made to prevent a war in Ukraine. At the same time, numerous people in the city center are protesting against the expert meeting.
About 1,600 opponents of the Security Conference (Siko) marched through downtown Munich. The head of the train reached Marienplatz in the afternoon, the police said.
The participants should gather there for a closing event until the early evening. The police expect there to be even higher numbers of participants.
The “Alliance against the NATO Security Conference” had registered for the demonstration from Karlsplatz to Marienplatz. In addition to the demonstration train, there were also some smaller events. Opponents of Siko met for a human chain on Karlsplatz – it was also registered by the action alliance. The police were initially unable to name the exact number of participants. Less than 200 people demonstrated on the Odeonsplatz under the slogan “Peace for Ukraine”.
The Munich Security Conference is the world’s most important meeting of experts on security policy. Around 30 heads of state and government are taking part, as well as more than 80 ministers.
