UN Organization accuses Israel of a shelling of those seeking help

Again and again people are killed in the Gaza strip in the distribution of humanitarian aid. The world nutrition program raises serious allegations against Israel.

According to the World Food Program (WFP), the Israeli army shot a large crowd near an auxiliary convoy in the Gaza Strip. The WFP convoy from 25 trucks was intended for the hungry people in northern Gaza Strip, said the UN Organization on X. When the convoy approached a waiting crowd on Sunday shortly after crossing the Zikim border crossing, it was under Israeli fire.

Numerous people were killed, many others were injured in life threatening, it said. The Israeli newspaper “Times of Israel” reported that it was not immediately clear whether they were victims of the Israeli army or armed gangs or from both. According to the health authority controlled by the Islamist Hamas, at least 67 people were killed. The newspaper quoted the army, according to which warning shots were fired “to eliminate an immediate threat to the troops”. Israel’s army therefore contested the high number of victims.

UN organization: People are about to starve

These people only tried to get food to feed themselves and their families, “who are about to starve,” complained the world nutrition program. The hunger crisis in Gaza had “a new extent of despair”. Despite the assurance of the Israeli authorities, the incident occurred that the conditions for humanitarian missions improve and that armed forces would never be present and intervene along the routes of humanitarian convoys.

The controversial Gaza Humanitrian Foundation (GHF) takes care of the distribution of food in large parts of the Gaza Strip. According to its own statements, Israel had introduced the new distribution mechanism to prevent Hamas from branching off. Among other things, the UN criticize that the foundation operates too few distribution centers and that people there and on the way are exposed to great dangers.

Again and again there are reports of fatal incidents near the GHF distribution points. The incident from Sunday underlines the increasingly dangerous conditions for humanitarian measures, the WFP said. Before the introduction of the new distribution mechanism, the UN had operated around 400 distribution stations for the approximately two million Palestinians. These still hardly work because Israel hardly allows its delivery.
