According to the UN, many people were killed in the delivery of relief goods again in Gaza. The world nutrition program criticizes Israel sharply. A call call also causes horror.
UN auxiliary organizations have sharp criticism of the most recent approach of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip and the intensifying humanitarian situation there. The “hunger crisis” in Gaza had “achieved a new extent of despair”, complained about the world nutrition program (WFP) on X. On Sunday, the army shot a large crowd near a WFP aid convoy, numerous people were killed. The UN-Nothilfebüro also spoke of a “devastating blow” for the humanitarian efforts through a new “mass displacement order” of the Israeli army for people in the city of Deir al-Balah in the center of Gazas.
According to the health authority in Gaza controlled by the Islamist Hamas, at least 73 Palestinians were killed in the sealed coastal strip on Sunday, most of them in an incident in the north, the “Times of Israel” reported. According to the WFP, a crowd had approached a WFP convoy from 25 trucks when it crossed the Zikim border crossing. Then the amount was under Israeli shelling. According to the Hamas authority, 67 people were killed, as the newspaper continued.
Reports about numerous dead
The “Times of Israel” reported that it was not immediately clear whether they were victims of the Israeli army or armed gangs or from both. The newspaper quoted the army, according to which warning shots were fired “to eliminate an immediate threat to the troops”. Israel’s army therefore contested the high number of victims. The WFP complained that people only tried to get food to feed themselves and their families, “which are about to starve”.
Meanwhile, Israel’s army announced that it will expand her missions in Deir al-Balah in the center of Gazas and called on people in several quarters to go in the southwest. From the perspective of the UN Nothilfebüro Ocha, this is another setback for humanitarian efforts. According to initial estimates, between 50,000 and 80,000 people were in the affected area, said Ocha.
Israel’s army chief sees “potential” for Geisel-Deal
Among them are many people who are accommodated in tents. At least 1,000 families have fled the area in the past few hours. According to Ocha, the newly designated area of application includes several warehouses for humanitarian aid, four clinics, a water reservoir and a pumping station for waste water. “Any damage to this infrastructure will have life -threatening consequences,” warned Ocha.
Despite the ongoing missions of the army in Gaza, Israel’s chief of staff Ejal Zamir considers an ceasefire and an agreement to release hostages from the violence of Islamist Hamas is increasingly possible. “Your successes in the field (…) let the defeat of the Hamas get closer and create the potential for a hostage deal,” said the army chief according to military information when visiting a troop in the Gaza Strip.
In the case of indirect negotiations in the Qatarian capital Doha rings, Israel and Hamas have been compromising for months, which are intended to enable a 60-day ceasefire and an release of hostages. Diplomats from Qatar, Egypt and the USA act as an intermediary. Israeli media recently reported progress. A breakthrough does not seem to be in sight yet.
Worry under hostage members
According to Israeli information, 50 people kidnapped in Gaza are still held from Israel, of which at least 20 should still be alive. The relatives reacted with horror to the army division about the expansion of the operations in Deir al-Balah. “Can anyone promise that this decision will not lead to the loss of our relatives?”, A statement by the forum of the hostage families was said.
An end to suffering in Gaza is not in sight. Despite the assurance of the Israeli authorities, the incident with the auxiliary convoy of the WFP in northern Gazas had occurred that the conditions for humanitarian missions improve and that armed forces would never be present and intervene along the routes of humanitarian convoys, the WFP complained.
Criticism of relief goods distribution
The controversial Gaza Humanitrian Foundation (GHF) takes care of the distribution of food in large parts of Gazas. According to its own statements, Israel had introduced the new distribution mechanism to prevent Hamas from branching off. The UN criticize that the foundation operates too few distribution centers in the Gaza Strip and that people there and on the way are exposed to great dangers. The Federal Government also criticizes the new distribution mechanism of the foundation as insufficient.
It is now “obvious that this does not reach the civilian population to a sufficient extent and does not operate according to the humanitarian principles”. This emerges from a response from the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin on questions of the Green Bundestag faction, which is available to the German Press Agency. First the “Spiegel” had reported. In the answer, the humanitarian situation in the sealed -up Gaza Strip is described as “unbearable”.
Again and again there are reports of fatal incidents near the GHF distribution points. The incident from Sunday underlines the increasingly dangerous conditions for humanitarian measures, the WFP said. Before the introduction of the new distribution mechanism, the UN operated around 400 distribution stations for the approximately two million Palestinians in Gaza. These still hardly work because Israel hardly allows its delivery.
