Auction in the White House via Netanyahu, a new problem bear for Germany, the SPD’s Russia connection and a camel back on four legs. That is important today.
Good morning, dear readers!
I hope you had a pleasant one weekend.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to show hardness in the Gaza Strip and in Syria – and get growing international criticism.
The UN Nothilfebüro, for example, sentenced Israel’s escape call for residents and inland refugees in the city of Deir al-Balah in the center of the competitive Gaza strip. The “mass disort command” of the Israeli armed forces represents another “devastating blow” for the humanitarian efforts in the territory devastated by the war. Palestinian sources also report on dead people who were waiting for humanitarian aid and were shot by Israeli soldiers. The Israeli army speaks of warning shots against a “immediate threat” and doubts the reported number of victims.
Supplied Netanyahu with Trump?
And now Netanyahu is obviously a new anger with his intervention in the conflict in Syria – and that in Washington, of all people, in which probably the closest allies that Israel currently has.
According to the US portal, concern is growing in Washington about Netanyahus. “Bibi has behaved like a crazy man. Bibi is the nickname of the Israeli head of government. “Trump’s efforts could undermine that.” Another US official expressed that skepticism towards Netanyahu is growing within the Trump government. You have the feeling that he was too shot and annoying. “Netanyahu is sometimes like a child who just doesn’t want to behave.”
In Syria there were last struggle between drusian militias, Sunni Bedouins and government forces. Israel intervened, bombarded convoys of the Syrian army on the way to Suwaida and government building in Damascus. According to US information, the conflict parties agreed on a ceasefire on Friday.
However, despite the ceasefire mediated by the USA, several US officials at “Axios” were concerned about Netanyahu’s regional policy. Trump, too, seems to be increasingly dissatisfied with his ally in Jerusalem. “The President does not like it when he turns on the television and sees how bombs fall on a country in which he tried to reconcile peace and made a monumental announcement,” said a US official. Another said that the Israelis had not recognized how much they had weakened their position in the White House.
So far, Trump has held back with public criticism of Netanyahu. It remains unclear whether he shares the frustration of his consultants.
However, it would not be the first time that Netanyahu pulls Trump’s anger. Only last month, the Republican showed up when Israel planned massive air raids after the shooting of a single rocket by Iran despite an agreed armistice, the reported.
The only question is when Netanyahu crosses a red line and Trump’s already thin and tense patience finally tears?
A new problem bear for Germany
Do you still remember Bruno, the notorious problem bear, dear readers? I only dark and more to the whole media circus. It was almost 20 years ago that Bruno, officially called JJ1, moved from northern Italy to the German-Austrian border area. At the beginning you marveled at your visit, but when he hit house and farm animals, the mood quickly tipped over. The attempts to capture the brown stray failed, and so it was soon decided in Bavaria to release it as a shooting. On June 26, 2006, Jäger Bruno finally succumbed. Since then he has been using existence as a stuffed museum exponat.
Now a new “problem bear” comes to Germany – Bruno’s sister of all places. However, it is brought here on purpose. Bärin JJ4, also called Gaia, killed a jogger in Italy in 2023. Now they are brought to the “Alternative Wolf and Bärenpark” at Bad Rippoldsau-Schapbach in the Black Forest, where an enclosure, a kind of high-security wing, was built for them.
Gaia was also originally supposed to be killed, but she caught her alive. In the Black Forest Park she has family: her mother, the brown bear Jurka, already lives there. But there will probably not be touching scenes of reunification. The two could smell loudly, but rather they will see each other as food competitors. And Gaia should also get a new name. Because it already has a wolf in the bear park. Not the best way to get into a new home.
The SPD Russia Connection
Matthias Platzeck, former SPD leader, has flown nine times to Moscow since 2022-even after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. What did he want? He doesn’t want to reveal the media. Private matter. However, the trips are not uncomfortable. After all, Platzek was chairman of the German-Russian forum until the Russian invasion. Will Platzeck want to keep the civil society dialogue alive, possibly even preparing peace talks or can a comrade once again be tense up for Russian gas transactions? Something positive
An emotional moment in Pakistan: A year after a brutal attack, a saved camel in Karachi took his first steps on all four thanks to a leg prosthesis. “I started crying when I saw her run with the leg prosthesis,” said the head of the shelter in Karachi, Sheema Khan, with a view of the animal named Cammie of the AFP news agency. “A dream came true.”
According to the supervising veterinarian Babar Hussain from the Benji project of the Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS), it is the first time that a large animal has received a leg prosthesis in Pakistan.
Cammie had survived a serious abuse in the southern province of Sindh in June 2024. In search of food, the camel entered a field at the time – which apparently brought its owner in such a way that he brutally attacked the animal and chopped his right front leg.
For Cammie, the animal shelter team procured a leg prosthesis of a US company so that the injured camel could run again on all four legs. “We don’t force them to go,” said veterinarian Hussain. “After we have attached the leg prosthesis, we wait about 15 to 20 minutes. Then it gets up on its own and slowly goes”.
According to the veterinarian, it will probably take another 15 to 20 days for Cammie to fully get used to the new leg. But despite the prosthesis, the zookeepers don’t let the zookeepers not let the camel to stay in the shelter forever.
