The Federal Government wants to allow the federal police to use electric shock guns, so -called Tasern. Interior Minister Dobrindt plans several million euros for this.
According to the Federal Government’s will, federal police should be able to use so -called taser nationwide in the future. The cabinet in Berlin decided to have a corresponding bill. The Bundestag would have to agree to the innovations. “If you have to keep a person at a distance, for example, with a impact or stab weapon, the taser is a possible choice of funds,” said Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU).
A taser is a device with which electric shocks are released from some distance that leads to painful muscle contractions. As a rule, a person becomes incapable of acting. The weapons are controversial, since Taser can lead to health consequences, for example with heart diseases or cardiovascular problems.
According to Dobrindt, 10,000 Taser are initially purchased
“Emergency forces must have all agents and leaderships in order to be able to act effectively and at the same time,” the draft said. The use of the firearm is always the last remedy. “In order to ensure a graded procedure for the use of the immediate coercion, distance electro pulse devices, colloquially also known as electric shock pistols or taser, can be used.” The draft law underlines the preventive effect of the devices.
According to Dobrindt, 10,000 devices are to be purchased over the next few years. In 2025, 5 million euros are planned for this, for the following years the same sum that can be increased if necessary.
