Talks in Türkiye: Camping – no ceasefire
1,200 prisoners on both sides are to be handed over, as the Russian chief negotiator Vladimir Medinski said after the talks to journalists in Istanbul. According to his information, seriously injured should also be exchanged along the front in the Ukraine war, which has lasted for more than three years. Kyiv confirmed the planned continuation of the exchanges, but gave no concrete numbers. Medinski continued that Russia also offered the return of 3,000 other Ukrainian fallen.
The talks on Wednesday evening started with almost one and a half hours late. Previously, the two chief negotiators had met for a short four -eye conversation. The conversation in a large group only took 40 minutes. Before the negotiations began, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that the ultimate goal was a ceasefire that paved the way to peace. However, a breakthrough in this third round of negotiation was previously considered unlikely.
Approached exchange in advance
In the evening it became known that the last exchange of prisoners who had been agreed in June negotiations had been carried out. “The Russian soldiers are currently on the territory of the Republic of Belarus,” said the Ministry of Defense in Moscow near Telegram. According to Medinski, 250 prisoners of war were replaced. Overall, the number of exchanges amounts to a good 2,400.
A little later, Selenskyj confirmed the current exchange. “Today the ninth in Istanbul already had an agreed exchange round,” he wrote at Telegram. More than 1,000 Ukrainians were returned by the Russians.
New law on corruption control should come
With a view to the newly announced law on corruption control, Selenskyj in his evening published in the evening promised that the answer to all worries of the demonstrators and ensure the independence of the authorities to combat corruption. Prime Minister Julia Swyrydenko also campaigned for the upcoming amendment at a meeting with the ambassadors of the G7 countries. “The government of Ukraine is set to zero tolerance compared to corruption,” wrote the head of government at Telegram. The new law will eliminate all existing discrepancies and strengthen the independence of the anti -corruption infrastructure.
Protests do not tear off
In the capital Kiev alone, at least 1,500 people gathered again on the auditory width of the presidential seat on Wednesday and despite applicable war law. There were also demonstrations in over a dozen other major cities such as LWIW, Kharkiw and Odessa. The number of participants clearly exceeded the values of the previous day when the first spontaneous meetings had occurred.
The day before, the parliament in Kiev had decided at a rapid pace of laws that largely undermined the National Anti -Corruption Office (NABU) created in 2015 and the specialized anti -corruption prosecutor (SAP). Spontaneously, thousands of young people protested in several major cities against the amendment and demanded a veto of the president. This signed the law on Tuesday evening, and it came into force immediately after the publication.
Attacks continue – Russia reports dead
A woman was killed in a nightly Ukrainian drone attack in Russia in the seaside resort of Sochi on the Black Sea. The civilian died through falling debris, the state news agency TASS reported, citing the regional crisis center. Another woman was seriously injured, it said.
Tass also reported the death of a civilian in the Russian Donetsk area in eastern Ukraine. This was killed in a Ukrainian attack on a housing estate in Horliwka, it was said, citing the Russian occupation management.
The presentation could not be checked independently. At first there was no information on the Ukrainian side.
In the late evening, TASS, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, reported to shoot more than 20 drones over the Black and the Asow Sea and about Krasnodar in the south of the country.
Again attacks on Ukraine
According to media reports, the recently intensified, massive Russian attacks on Ukraine continued unabated. The Ukrainian news agency RBK-Ukraine reported the southern city of Mykolajiw, citing authorities from nightly drone attacks on the port city of Odessa. In Odessa, according to the governor Oleh Kiper, sights in the old town, which belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, are damaged. According to RBK-Ukraine, the Central Lucrainian city of Tscherkassy was also the destination of air strikes.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion with western help for more than three years. As part of her defensive fight, she always attacks goals in Russia. The damage and victims are out of proportion to the devastating consequences of the Russian attack war on the Ukrainian side.
