After two days of protest, the Ukrainian President Selenskyj directs and submits a draft law that restores the powers of the corruption fighters. Does the parliament play with?

After a large wave of protest, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj submitted a new law to restore the powers of attorney and independence from anti -corruption authorities in parliament. “The draft law restores all procedural powers and guarantees independence from the national anti -corruption office (NABU) and the specialized anti -corruption prosecutor (SAP),” wrote the two authorities on their telegram channels after the legal text became known. NABU and SAP were therefore involved in the development of the draft law.



A timing of the vote was initially not clear. Parliament President Ruslan Stefanschuk promised to vote on Facebook on Facebook at the next parliamentary meeting. According to MPs, however, the top rada is only until mid -August during the summer vacation.

When the novella was adopted by the top rada, a law that was only decided on Tuesday in the urgent procedure would be corrected. The controversial law in fact had subordinated the two organs of the Attorney General. Thereupon there were protests with thousands of participants nationwide who demanded a restoration of the powers for NABU and SAP.

In the EU, too, the change in the law had met with incomprehension. Both authorities were founded in 2015 with western help in order to combat the notorious corruption, especially in high -ranking politicians and in the administration. The Eastern European country is still one of the most corrupt countries in Europe for the Eastern European country.
