In the middle of the efforts to take a ceasefire in the Gaza War, the United States is calling back its negotiation team from Katar’s capital Doha. Hamas is not willing to achieve a ceasefire.
Israel and the United States have called back their negotiation teams in the struggle for a ceasefire for the Gaza Strip. Almost three weeks after the recent round of talks in Doha’s Catar, the United States had decided to deduct its delegation in order to advise against Washington, Steve Witkoff said in online media on Thursday. He accused Hamas a blockage keeping. France President Emmanuel Macron, however, announced the recognition of a Palestinian state.
“True to his historical commitment to a fair and permanent peace in the Middle East, I decided that France will recognize the state of Palestine,” said Macron in several online services on Thursday. He will “ceremoniously announce this in September of this year on the United Nations General Batte”.
“Emergency discussion” about location in the Gaza Strip
Meanwhile, France, Germany and Great Britain want to advise the situation in the Gaza Strip on Friday in an “emergency discussion”, as the British Prime Minister Keir Stander explained. The so-called E3 countries wanted to discuss opportunities to “end killing quickly” and to ensure that the people in the Gaza Strip “are supplied with the food they urgently need,” explained Starmer. He also wanted to discuss with Berlin and Paris how a permanent peace between Israel and Hamas could be achieved.
In addition to the demolished negotiations for a fire break in the Gaza Strip, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that his government was also interested in an agreement with Hamas despite the withdrawal of the Israeli negotiation team from Doha. “We are working on reaching another agreement to release our hostages,” said Netanyahu in a speech. If Hamas interpret this willingness to negotiate as a “weakness” or see as an opportunity to “dictate capitulation conditions that endanger the state of Israel, it is extremely wrong”.
Israel had ordered his negotiators back on Thursday after the Hamas had previously replied to an Israeli ceasefire proposal. Netanyahu’s office said it received the answer and checked it.
A lack of will to agree
According to the Palestinian negotiating circles, the answer of the Hamas contained changes of amendment to clauses on the delivery of relief goods in the Gaza Strip, to maps of the areas from which the Israeli army should withdraw and to guarantees for a permanent end of the war.
Witkoff accused the radical Islamic Hamas a lack of will to agree. The latest answer from the Palestinian organization “clearly shows that there is no willingness to achieve a break in Gaza”. “While the intermediaries tried very hard, Hamas does not seem to be coordinated or in good will,” Witkoff continued to write in online media. The US government is therefore considering “alternative opportunities for the hostage of the hostages and trying to create a more stable environment for the people in Gaza”.
Representatives of Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip have led indirect discussions in Doha since July 6th in Doha, under the imparting of Katar, Egypt and the United States to reach an agreement that leads to an ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages. Both sides accuse each other not to give in in their central demands.
For Israel, the complete breakdown of Hamas is not negotiable, while the Hamas guarantees for permanent ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of the Israeli troops and the unhindered access of relief goods into the Palestinian area.
49 delayed hostages in Gaza
Of the 251 hostages dragged on October 7, 2023, 49 are still captured in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023 – 27 of them are dead, according to the Israeli army.
Israel, however, is increasingly under pressure due to the devastating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. More than a hundred aid organizations warned of a “mass starvation” in the Palestinian area on Wednesday.
Israel rejects the criticism. The government accuses the Hamas to hinder the distribution of relief goods in the Gaza Strip, to loot the humanitarian deliveries themselves, sell food at excessive prices and to shoot helpers.
Israel also contests to block the import of aid deliveries in the Gaza Strip. The Department of the Israeli Ministry of Defense (Cogat), which is responsible for civil matters, said on Thursday on X that 70 trucks were unloaded on border crossings open to aid deliveries on Wednesday. 150 trucks were picked up by the UN and other international aid organizations. Over 800 trucks were waiting to be picked up.
Aid organizations, on the other hand, accuse Israel not to issue sufficient permits for humanitarian deliveries. In addition, the distribution of goods in a war zone is difficult.
