The trend in the deportations from Germany is pointing up. The Federal Minister of the Interior has recently confirmed a harder course. There is still criticism from the AfD.
The number of deportations from Germany continues to increase. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, more than 11,800 people were deported in the first half of 2025. This emerges from a response from the Ministry to a request from the AfD member of the Bundestag Leif-Erik Holm, which is available to the German Press Agency.
In the first half of the previous year, it was almost 9,500 deportations. In 2024, more than 20,000 deportations and thus more than in the years before.
Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) had recently spoken out with his counterpart from Austria, Denmark, France, the Czech Republic and Poland for a harder course in migration and asylum policy. “Effective returns are an essential prerequisite for trust in a balanced European migration policy,” says a joint explanation.
Despite the increase, Holm criticized the number of deportations as insufficient. “There is nothing to be seen from a deportation offensive.” Among other things, the AfD politician called for deportation centers to prevent the immersion of departure from returning.
