The Ukrainian President Selenskyj bends the massive pressure and restores the independence of the anti-corruption authorities. But the situation has not yet calmed down.

After the sharp criticism of the EU and massive protests by thousands of Ukrainians, President Wolodymyr Selenskyj in Kiev submitted a draft law to restore the independence of the anti-corruption authorities. In order to rule out a Russian influence in the state bodies, all employees with access to state secrets are to be subjected to lying detectors, Selenskyj announced in his evening video message. “And that must be regular controls,” he said.

Previously, he had brought a corresponding new bill to the work of the anti-corruption authorities into the parliament-the top rada. This provides for lie detection tests within six months. Nevertheless, there were again protests against Selenskyjs in Kiev and other cities in the country on Tuesday, despite criticism in an urgent procedure, with which the anti-corruption female of the Attorney General and thus ultimately should also be subordinate to the president.

Demonstrations on the third day as a result

The protesters demanded the adoption of the new law that anti-corruption fighters granted their previous powers again. In Kiev, the demonstrators gathered the third day due to the vision of the presidential seat, as a reporter from the German Press Agency reported on site. However, the number of the gathered remained behind the numbers of the previous day with a few hundred.

“The draft law restores all procedural powers and guarantees independence from the national anti -corruption office (NABU) and the specialized anti -corruption prosecutor (SAP),” wrote the two authorities after Selenskyj’s new legal text on their telegram channels. NABU and SAP were therefore involved in the development of the draft law.

Vote on corrected law so far without an appointment

A timing of the vote in the Rada was initially not clear. Parliament President Ruslan Stefanschuk promised to vote on Facebook on Facebook at the next meeting. According to MPs, however, the top rada is only until mid -August during the summer vacation.

Previously a lot of lack of understanding for law

The amendment to the law on Tuesday not only triggered protests in different cities. In the EU, too, the decision met with incomprehension. The NABU and SAP were founded in 2015 with western help in order to combat the notorious corruption, especially among high -ranking politicians and in the administration. According to all reforms, the country’s non -governmental organization is considered one of the most corrupt countries in Europe.

Critics accused Selenskyj’s authoritarian tendencies by wanting to submit to the long -term independent authorities. The fact that he now failed described commentators as a bitter political defeat that leaves the president behind.

Selenskyj relies on Chancellor Merz

According to Selenskyj, Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) also informed about the current changes. He had “invited Germany to participate in the assessment of the draft law by experts. Friedrich assured me of his willingness to support.” A involvement of other European partners such as Great Britain and the EU is also planned.

“We all agreed that there should be no interference or influence on Russia on the functioning of our anti -corruption infrastructure,” said Selenskyj after a meeting with the official representatives. “Anyone who has access to state secrets – and this applies not only to NABU and SAP, but also to the state office for investigations, our national police – have to undergo a lie on a lie. And that must be regular checks,” said Selenskyj.

So far there have been such tests, but not in the now planned density. However, the NABU announced in the evening that according to the draft law, the SBU secret service does not run the tests, but an administrative control point. The text published on the Rada page, however, explicitly speaks from the SBU after the first check came into force. All subsequent controls should take place at least every two years by internal control organs.

Selenskyj announces an answer to Russian attacks

In his evening message, the Ukrainian president once again condemned the ongoing Russian attacks – regardless of the direct negotiations between Kiev and Moscow on Wednesday in Istanbul. Russia shows with the attacks -as on the market in Odessa and the city of Charkiw, where there were more than 40 injuries -that there was no interest in peace. Many other cities were once more destinations for Russian drone and bomb attacks, there were dead and injured.

“Of course we will answer all of this,” announced Selenskyj. Ukraine repeatedly attacks Russian territory in its defensive fight against the Moscow attack war on Moscow. A woman died in a drone attack on the Russian area of Kursk, as authorities said there in the evening. Overall, the figures of the victims and the damage are in no relation to the massive destruction, many dead and injured by the Russian attacks in Ukraine.
