Other constitutional organ, different decision: The Federal Council wants to raise the rainbow flag at Christopher Street Day – unlike the Bundestag.
Unlike the Bundestag, the Federal Council on Christopher Street Day in Berlin wants to raise the rainbow flag this Saturday. This is done as a “sign of diversity, respect and tolerance,” it said in a message from the country chamber. The Berlin CSD parade leads past the building of the Federal Council.
“Diversity, respect and tolerance, as well as freedom and equality, belong to the core of democracy. They are indispensable for a free and open society,” said Federal Council President Anke Rehlinger (SPD). Everyone has the right to live and love with dignity without discrimination. “This is what the rainbow flag stands for: to be seen as a commitment that we feel committed as democrats,” emphasized the Saarland Prime Minister.
At the Bundestag, the flag does not blow to Christopher Street Day
For the Bundestag, its President Julia Klöckner (CDU) had rejected the rainbow flag with the rainbow flag this Saturday. She justified this with the obligation of the Bundestag administration on neutrality. Unlike in previous years, there will now be no official car of the Bundestag during the CSD parade. Klöckner had suffered violent criticism for the decisions.
