France President Emmanuel Macron wants to recognize Palestine as a state from September. For this he receives praise and criticism – especially the USA and Israel are not enthusiastic.
US President Donald Trump has downplayed the announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron, who wants to recognize Palestine as a state. Macron is okay, Trump said and pushed after: “But the good news is: what he says does not matter.” France’s president’s statement has no weight.
Macron announced on Thursday evening on platform X that he would announce the recognition of Palestine as a state in September before the UN General Assembly in New York. In a joint explanation, Paris, Berlin and London called for the end of the “humanitarian catastrophe” in the Gaza Strip. However, the German Federal Government had emphasized that it does not want to recognize a Palestinian state for the time being.
Donald Trump: “Hamas really don’t want a deal”
Israel and the United States condemned Macron’s project. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on the X: “This ruthless decision only serves the Hamas propaganda and throws peace back.” She was a slap in the face of the victims of the massacre of October 7, 2023 in Israel.
Trump again accused Hamas of preventing a peace agreement with Israel. “Hamas really didn’t want to make a deal. I think they want to die,” said the US President.
When asked by a journalist about possible aid deliveries for the hungry people in the Gaza Strip, Trump said that he spoke to Israel’s head of government Benjamin Netanyahu. He did not want to give details. The conversation was “disappointing”.
The attack by the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas on October 7, 2023, in which more than 250 people were deported to the Gaza Strip and more than 1,200 people were killed, was triggered by the war in the sealed coastal strip.
