Again and again there are massive problems in Russia’s air traffic in Ukrainian drone attacks. However, new dozens of flight cancellations in Moscow have another reason.
In Moscow, dozens of flights have failed after a alleged attack by Proukrainian hacker groups. The state Russian airline Aeroflot initially spoke of around 60 painted flights at the Airport Scheremetjewo and stated a disorder in its IT systems as the reason for this. Experts from the company were working on restoring the work of the servers in order to resume planned air traffic, it said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskow spoke of alarming messages. “Hacker’s threat is a danger that is available for all major companies that serve the population,” he told Interfax.
Proukrainian hackers of the groups Silent Crow and Cyber Partisans by announced that they had carried out an operation against Aeroflot that had been prepared for a year. The Russian Attorney General led criminal proceedings to the computer systems for illegal penetration.
Hacker: IT systems destroyed and data intercepted
Ukrainian media also cited the hackers from communications, which therefore claimed a “strategic blow” against Russia’s largest airline. The entire IT infrastructure was brought under their control, 7,000 servers were destroyed.
Twelve terabytes were collected in data. For the Russian domestic intelligence agency FSB and other bodies of cyber security Moscow, this is a message that they are unable to protect the key IT infrastructure.
Disruptions again and again through Ukrainian drones
Passengers who wanted to fly during the holidays were stuck at Scheremetjewo Airport and were asked to watch advertisements on the travel tableaus. Hundreds had to receive their luggage again and leave the airport. Domestic and foreign flights were affected.
In the past few weeks there have been restrictions in Russian air traffic, including the other Moscow capital airports Domodedowo, Wnukowo and Schukowski. The reason for this was the danger from Ukrainian drone attacks. The airlines complained of massive losses due to the frequent closures of the airspace.
In the Ukraine, in turn, no passenger flights have been possible for more than three years because of the Russian attack war. Ukrainian commentators wrote that the Russians now also noticed what it is like not to be able to fly on vacation.
