US President Donald Trump increases the pressure on Russia’s ruler Vladimir Putin and sets a shortened ultimatum to end the war in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump gives a period of “ten to twelve days” to Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine War. The new ultimatum starts today, Trump said on Monday at a meeting with the British Prime Minister Keir Strander in Scotland. “There is no reason to wait, we just don’t see progress being made,” said Trump.
Trump had previously announced that it had to shorten the 50-day ultimate that has been in force since mid-July. He was “disappointed” by Putin, emphasized the US President.
The Ukrainian government welcomed Trump’s announcement to shorten the deadline. Presidential office chief Andrij Jermak thanked Trump in online service X to remain “steadfast” and to send “a clear message of peace through strength”. “When America goes with strength, others think twice,” he added.
Trump had first approached Putin
Trump had set a 50-day period to end the Ukraine War in mid-July. If there was no “deal” about peace in Ukraine in 50 days, the USA would “impose tariffs of around 100 percent”, said Trump. Accordingly, it is said to be so -called secondary sanctions against countries such as China, India and Brazil that continue to buy cheap oil and gas from Russia.
Trump had announced in the election campaign that he would end the Ukraine war as president within 24 hours. After taking office in January, he initially approached Putin, but after severe air raids Moscow, however, Trump increasingly expressed criticism of the Kremlin boss.
