In a choice behind the name of an AfD MP, Daniel Born (SPD) noted a swastika. He follows withdrawals, but he does not want to give up his mandate.
After the swastika scandal in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, Daniel Born resigns from his SPD party offices and does without his candidate for the state parliament. “Baden-Württemberg needs a strong SPD. And with my resignation from my party offices, I want to help my part to be strong,” said the 49-year-old lawyer. His serious mistake should only burden him. However, he wanted to keep his state mandate until the end of the legislative period.
The former state vice president belonged to both the presidium and the board of his party in the southwest. He was also district chairman of the SPD Rhein-Neckar. He was fifth on the list for the state election on March 8, 2026.
SPD Presidium asked Daniel Born for a complete withdrawal
Born further announced that in the coming months he wanted to concentrate entirely on his work as a member of the Schwetzingen constituency in order to bring his current topics to a good conclusion. “Of course I get a lot of criticism here too. But also the request to continue my work for the region.” He does that with full force.
The SPD Presidium in the country had previously asked Born to retreat-including mandate. “Daniel Born has made a serious mistake. To avert further damage from the party and faction, resignation is essential,” said head of state Andreas Stoch. The decision was made after intensive consultations. The SPD Rhein-Neckar called Born again in the evening to put down its mandate.

Hasted cross as a “short circuit reaction”
The MP had admitted that he had noted a swastika in a secret election on Thursday behind the name of an AfD MP. In addition to his retreat as President of the state parliament, Born had also announced his resignation from the SPD parliamentary group.
Born had spoken in a personal explanation of a “short -circuit reaction” and a “serious mistake”. He wanted to show that a vote for the AfD in no matter what election was a voice for right hatred and agitation, Born wrote in his explanation. “The AfD is a secure right -wing extremist, the party containing democracy, and the increasing getting used to the AfD no longer leaves me a quiet minute.”
