US President Donald Trump threatens Moscow and, not surprisingly, receives praise from Kyiv. It is possible to push Russia into peace through ultimats, believes the Ukrainian President Selenskyj.
The Ukrainian head of state Wolodymyr Selenskyj praised the pressure on Russia, which is tightened by US President Donald Trump with a new customs elimatum, as an important step towards peace. Russia is doing everything to extend the war and harm Ukraine, Selenskyj said in his evening video message. “We repeatedly emphasized – and all partners know that – that sanctions are a key element.” Peace through strength is possible because Russia feels the sanctions and the resulting losses, Selenskyj was optimistic.
Previously, US President Trump had threatened to shorten the deadline for new tariffs against Russia’s trading partner. Was originally mentioned of 50 days, the 79-year-old Moscow now set a period of “ten to twelve days”. If there was no agreement on an ceasefire or a peace agreement in the period, sanctions against Russia’s trading partners would impose, Trump announced at a meeting with the British Premier Keir Straer. Moscow had criticized the ultimatum.
In his speech, Selenskyj announced a strengthening of the SBU secret service. With a corresponding law, he in particular increased the troop strength of the Center for Special Operations. This unit is one of the most powerful in defense against the Russian invasion. The SBU had a sensational stroke against Russia’s strategic bomber fleet in early June. Drones invited to truck had attacked military airfields far in the Russian hinterland, destroying about a dozen bombers with which Russia attacks Ukraine.
