People in Gaza Strip suffer bitter hardship because Israel hardly lets auxiliary transports through them. Additional help should now come out of the air – also through the German Air Force.
The Bundeswehr has sent two transport aircraft to Jordan, which are supposed to supply the needy population in the Gaza Strip with relief goods. The two A400M machines are on the way, said Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) in a joint press conference with the Jordanian king Abdullah II.
“This work may only make a small contribution to humanitarian. But it is an important signal: we are there, we are in the region, we will help,” said Merz. In Jordan, the aircraft would be refueled and equipped. You should then throw pallets with relief goods over the Gaza Strip. These missions (so -called Air Drop) may start this Wednesday, but at the latest from the weekend, said Merz.
Relief supplies from the air just a drop on the hot stone
Jordan is very grateful for the German support for the Air Drop, said King Abdullah II. “Air drop is only a drop on the hot stone. But it strengthens the pressure on Israel.” The transport of aid goods in the Gaza Strip with truck must quickly be made possible in the number that is necessary to protect the people in Gaza from starvation.
Merz also confirmed his position that Israel had to quickly and firmly improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza. “The suffering civilian population must give human -rectanging, urgently needed care.” The Federal Government welcomes the first steps of the Israeli government. “But more have to follow.”
For the first time again larger amount of relief goods by truck to Gaza
In the past few days, Israel had had several hundred trucks driven in the Gaza Strip with relief goods after hardly any food and other help had arrived there in the months before. In March, the government of Benjamin Netanyahu imposed a total blockade over the area. From May she only let small amounts of aid deliveries. In the Gaza Strip this led to a dramatic lack of food and other vital goods.
France also wants to throw relief supplies over the Gaza Strip in the coming days. It is about covering the most urgent and fundamental needs of the civilian population, the Foreign Ministry said in Paris. Great Britain will also be expected to provide aircraft.
