The stricer threatens Israel with the recognition of state of Palestine

Like France, Great Britain could recognize Palestine as a state. At the end of September, the state of Palestine will be recognized before the United Nations General Assembly, provided that the Israeli government does not take significant steps to end the horrific situation in the Gaza Strip and confess to a long -term, sustainable peace, the British Premier Keir Starer said after an urgency session of his cabinet.

For these steps, among other things, to allow the United Nations to immediately resume the supply of the population in the Gaza Strip with humanitarian aid to end hunger, it said in a message from Downing Street. In addition, Israel had to agree to a ceasefire and make it clear that there will be no annexions in West Bank.

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the advance of Strander. The recognition of Palestine as a state would be a “reward for Hamas” and would affect the efforts of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as well as the release of the hostages that are still captured by the Hamas and other extremists, it said in a message.

In the meantime, the British Foreign Minister David Lammy repeated the threat to Israel in a speech in New York and carried out sharp criticism of the government of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. If Israel does not end the suffering, the British government will recognize “Palestine as a state with the hand of the story on our shoulders”, he said.

“The rejection of a two-state solution by the Netanyahu government is wrong. It is moral and strategic wrong. It harms the interests of the Israeli people and blocks the only way to adapt and to permanent peace,” said Lammy in an energetic speech in the large hall of the United Nations General Assembly.

The so -called two -state solution means the construction of an independent Palestinian state, which is supposed to exist peacefully by side with Israel. It is considered the internationally recognized goal for a solution to the Middle East conflict. In New York there is currently a UN conference to realize the two-state solution-without Israel and the USA.

At the same time, the British chief diplomat emphasized that there was no justification for suffering in the Gaza Strip, but only the clear duty to end it. “The children are hungry, and Israel’s help has been horrified by the world. This is a violation of the values of the United Nations Charter.” International experts in nutritional security had recently warned of a rapid deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the sealed coastal area.

At the same time, Premier Strander said in the cabinet meeting that the demands on the Islamist Hamas remained: Hamas had to release all hostages, also agree with a ceasefire, that it would not play a role in the rule of the Gaza Strip and lay down its weapons.

In the run-up to the UN General Assembly, one would then assess the extent to which the parties would have implemented the steps, said Starmer. Then a final decision will be made. At the same time, Downing Street also made it clear that recognition of a state of Palestine alone would not change the situation on site alone.

France President Emmanuel Macron had announced Palestine’s recognition last week as a state and thus attracted sharp criticism of Israel and the USA.

Almost 150 UN member states recognize Palestine as a state. Important western countries such as the UN VetoMacht USA are not one of them. Palestine does not recognize Germany as a state either. Israel is not recognized by Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Syria.
