According to experts, a famine is emerging in the Gaza Strip. Germany wants to have relief supplies over the war zone shortly – but EU sanctions against Israel will not agree to the time.
Because of the catastrophic conditions in the contested Gaza strip, Israel sees itself exposed to increasing international pressure on action. According to international experts in nutritional security, “The worst scenario of a famine” is emerging in the coastal area. If the Israeli government does not take significant steps to end this horrific situation and commit itself to a long -term, sustainable peace, Great Britain – like France – will recognize the state of Palestine, the British Premier Keir Starmer warned.
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized this advance in sharp words. The recognition of Palestine as a state would be a “reward for Hamas” and would affect the efforts of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as well as the release of the hostages that are still captured by the Hamas and other extremists, it said in a message.
Germany brakes in EU-Israel sanctions
Germany and several other EU countries do not want to agree to a proposal for the sanctioning of Israel because of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza. The German press agency found out about diplomats when consulting the constant representatives of the Member States in Brussels, the German Press Agency had not been agreed. Specifically, the EU Commission had recommended partially to suspend Israel’s participation in the Horizon Europe research promotion program on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump tightened the tone towards Israel and emphasized the ally to provide the starving population in Gaza with more food. “Whether you speak of starvation or not – these are children who are hungry,” he said on the return flight from Scotland. “I think everyone – unless he is quite cold -hearted or worse: crazy – can’t say anything else than that it is terrible to see these children.” The necessary food will be brought to them.
Germany participates in relief goods drops
“Immediate measures must be taken to end hostility and enable unimpeded, large-scale, life-saving humanitarian aid,” says the IPC initiative for analyzing nutritional crises. This is the only way to prevent further fatalities and catastrophic human suffering, the experts said.
According to Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), two Bundeswehr machines have broken open in order to supply the population in the Gaza Strip as part of international efforts. Merz announced that the machines would be equipped in Jordan and their missions may already be flying today, but at the latest from the weekend.
Helpers consider the dropping of relief goods to be ineffective and expensive because of the relatively small quantities, for example in comparison to truck transports. The pallets could violate or kill people on the ground. Critics speak of a symbolic gesture that serves more of their own image than those affected.
Federal government: Course of Israeli government “completely wrong”
The Federal Government asked the Israeli government to change the course at a UN conference on the two-state solution in New York. “When Germany we said that we would rather recognize a Palestinian state in the end. This is still our position – but we see that current Israeli politics points in the opposite direction,” said Minister of State Florian Hahn. This is “completely wrong” and does not serve the long -term security interests of Israel.
The creation of an independent Palestinian state is meant by two -state solution, which is supposed to exist peacefully by side with Israel. France’s President Emmanuel Macron recently announced that the UN General Assembly in New York Palestine as a state at the end of September. Unlike Germany, Great Britain is now also threatening with it.
Arab countries are calling for the end of Hamas rule
Several Arab states, including the countries of Egypt and Qatar mediating between Israel and the Hamas, meanwhile called for an end to Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip at the UN Conference on the two-state solution. In a seven-sided document that is available to the German Press Agency, a total of 17 countries asked concrete steps for an end to the conflict.
“The war in Gaza has to end now,” says one of the prerequisites for the goal of a two -state solution, to which Israel must confess. In the document, the Hamas massacre in Israel will also be sentenced on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war. The British Prime Minister also said that the demands of Hamas remained: it had to release all hostages, agree to a ceasefire, accept that it will not play a role in rule the gaza strip and put down the weapons.
Netanyahu: Hamas is the biggest obstacle to Gaza agreements
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sees the greatest obstacle in the terrorist organization for the establishment of a ceasefire agreement. Since the withdrawal of the Israeli negotiation team from Qatar, he has had many consultations on the subject, Netanyahu said in a video message. “But there is a big obstacle, and everyone knows what that is: Hamas.”
Netanyahu had mentioned “Alternative Options” after the delegation was deducted in order to free the hostages that are still captured in the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli media, this also includes the possible annexation of parts of the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu will hold consultations on the further procedure again in the next two days, wrote the “Times of Israel”.
“The idea that military pressure would bring Hamas to the negotiating table and weaken their demands has so far failed,” the US newspaper “Wall Street Journal” quoted a manager of the Jerusalem think factory Jewish People Policy Institute. “Israel’s policy is very reactive at the moment and not proactive,” said the expert.
Ofer Guterman from the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv told the newspaper: “Israel is currently on a crossroads.” Israel now has to decide whether it wants to occupy the entire Gaza Strip or sign an agreement to end the war and get the hostages out.
Activists report again Israeli attacks in Syria
In the meantime, despite an agreed ceasefire in Syria, Israel attacked destinations in the neighboring country, according to activists. This included armed groups and vehicles from Bedouin clans as well as government-related militias in the southern province of Suwaida, said the Syrian observation center for human rights. On request, a spokesman for the Israeli army said that he had no knowledge of attacks.
Since the outbreak of fighting in Syria between ethnic and religious groups, Israel has bombed goals in Suwaida and the capital Damascus. According to this, Israel wants to protect the Drusian community in Syria, but also pursues other strategic interests.
