The pressure on Israel because of the devastating location in the Gaza Strip is growing. Now Kanada Palestine wants to recognize after France. The reaction from Israel follows promptly.
The Canada government has promised recognition of a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September.
“Canada intends to recognize the state of Palestine in the 80th meeting of the UN General Assembly in September 2025,” said Prime Minister Mark Carney. He justified the step with increasingly poor prospects for a two -state solution in the Middle East and denounced the situation in the West Bank and the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip. The decision was shaped by Canada’s “long-standing” conviction of a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Recognition of a state of Palestine: Canada follows France
The term two -state solution means that Israel and an independent Palestinian state exist peacefully by side. The possibility of such a solution “disappears from our eyes,” emphasized the head of government. Carney also referred to the “unbearable” suffering of people in the Gaza Strip and the “persistent failure” of Israel to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe in the war against Hamas.
“It was hoped for decades that a two -state solution could be achieved as part of a peace process that is based on a negotiating solution between the Israeli government and the Palestinian autonomy,” said Carney. “Unfortunately, this approach is no longer portable,” he added.
Canada is the first G7 country to join the French announcement last week. Great Britain has also recently been openly threatened with recognition of Palestine if the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not to end the Gaza war and the suffering of the Palestinians.
When asked, Carney made it clear that it was a declaration of intent for his government. In theory, a scenario is possible that he will take his decision back, even if he cannot imagine that at the moment, said Carney. “If there was no scenario, we would act immediately.”
Israel: Canada’s change of course “Reward for Hamas”
Israel’s government condemned Carney’s decision. The Canadian government’s change of course is a reward for the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, criticized the Foreign Ministry. He a shame to make an effort for a ceasefire in the Gaza War and an release of the hostages captured by the Islamists in the Gaza Strip.
Almost 22 months after the beginning of the Gaza War, the pressure to recognize a Palestinian state increases. At the end of a UN conference on the two-state solution, 15 western countries jointly launched an appeal for the Palestinians on Tuesday.
