Tens of thousands of deaths in Gaza, starving people, rubble landscapes – these pictures also make criticism of Israel louder in Germany. Foreign Minister WadePhul comes with concrete claims.

To quickly improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, asked Foreign Minister Johann WadePhul (CDU) Israel to open border crossings into the war zone. “Aid goods can only reach people in sufficient quantities by land,” said WadePhul at the beginning of a two -day trip to Israel and the Palestinian areas. “That is why I urgently ask the Israeli government to enable the UN and the international aid organizations to provide safe access and, above all, safe and effective distribution.”

WadePhul arrived in Tel Aviv in the afternoon and continued to Jerusalem from there. There were talks on his visit plan with his Israeli colleague Gideon Saar, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Izchak Herzog.

Central topics of the visit are the relief of the people’s need in the Gaza Strip and ways to end the war that will almost last two years. A meeting with those responsible for the Palestinian Authority Authority in Ramallah is planned for this Friday.

WadePhul: Dying in Gaza has incredible dimensions

In his statement on the departure, the German Foreign Minister emphasized that Israel had to “immediately, comprehensively and sustainably remedy the catastrophic location in the Gaza Strip”. There, dying and suffering “incredible dimensions”.

Germany will continue to advocate Israel to ensure that Islamist Hamas is finally disarmed the hostages, including German nationals, free -distance and had no more political influence in the Palestinian areas. “A threat to Israel must never go out again.”

At the same time, WadePhul Israel warned of further tightening the situation. “Germany will also be forced to react to one -sided steps.”

For the time being, no recognition of a Palestinian state

WadePhul confirmed that, unlike France and Great Britain, Germany is currently not thinking of recognition of a Palestinian state. From a German perspective, a negotiated two -state solution remains the only way that enables people on both sides a life in peace, security and dignity. But: “For Germany, the recognition of a Palestinian state is more at the end of the process.”

Berlin still reluctant to sanction

In contrast to the question of sanctions against Israel, Germany is reluctant to many other European countries. The federal government keeps this step open. The EU Commission had recommended that Israel to participate in the Horizon Europe research promotion program in parts. Whether Germany will support such measures is also likely to depend on the results of the WadePhuls trip.

SPD and Greens are calling for more pressure on Israel

Before the start of the WadePhul trip, the SPD penetrated more pressure on the Israeli government to allow more help on the country path for the needy people in the Gaza Strip. The deputy SPD parliamentary group leader Siemtje Möller spoke of “real pressure” in the ARD “Morgenmagazin” so that suffering in the Gaza Strip could be ended. Möller is part of the foreign minister’s delegation.

The co-chair of the Greens, Franziska Brantner, expects the German Foreign Minister that he is “with all his strength” for humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and a political process to terminate the war. It would be important to have European ability to act, which is currently blocked because of the German position, said Brantner in the RBB-Inforadio.

Celebrities for immediate stop German arms deliveries

Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) push more than 200 actors, musicians and media people to stop arms deliveries to Israel and further sanctions. In an open letter that was published before WadePhul’s departure to Israel, they refer to the suffering of children in the Gaza Strip and emphasize: “We also judge the gruesome crimes of Hamas. But no crimes legitimizes millions of innocent people in a brutally punishment.”

The first signers include the moderators Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf, the musician Shirin David and the musician Zartmann, the actresses Katharina Thalbach, Jessica Schwarz, Heike Makatsch and Liv Lisa Fries, the actors Benno Führmann, Daniel Brühl and Jürgen Vogel and the author Marc-Uwe Kling. According to the campaign, the campaign organized the Avaaz campaign group.
