Internet: USA: Trump’s Twitter alternative in the App Store for iPhones

For some time there has been speculation about a renewed candidacy for Donald Trump. He remains locked out on Twitter and Facebook. In the United States, the ex-president has now started an alternative channel.

Former US President Donald Trump, who is locked out of Twitter and Facebook, is trying to establish his own online platform for his supporters.

The Twitter alternative developed by Trump’s media group, Truth Social, appeared in the American App Store for Apple’s iPhone on Monday.

However, some users had problems registering and were referred to a waiting list, the tech website CNET reported. The head of Trump’s media group TMTG, Devin Nunes, told Fox News on Sunday that the goal is to have Truth Social fully operational by the end of March. After the announcement in autumn, the service was initially tested on a small scale.

Likely to run again

Trump’s social media activities are of particular importance given the speculation about the 75-year-old’s possible candidacy in the 2024 US presidential election. Facebook and especially Twitter were Trump’s most important communication channels for years, but he lost access after the storm Supporters at the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021. The decisive factor was that Trump had expressed sympathy for the attackers.

Twitter sees no turning back for the ex-president, who has had more than 80 million followers on the platform. Trump is initially banned from Facebook until early 2023. Google’s video platform Youtube does not rule out its return, but does not give a time frame for it.
